I have a 97 GSX and I was just wondering if it is a normal thing to have to add oil every couple thousand miles or less. I got the car a little over a month ago and I've added a quart of oil total and driven about 2000 miles or maybe a little more. I check it pretty often and have added some oil a 3 or 4 times in the past month. It's all been from that one quart but still. Didn't know if this was normal for these cars to use some oil. Maybe the turbo burns some oil? I've heard it can be the valve seals but my car isn't smoking at all. Also can it depend on how hard I drive the car? I'll admit I do get on it from time to time. Will driving in high boost affect oil consumption at all? Thanks a lot.

I have worked at a oil change shop for 2 years and Mitsubishi tend to leak oil more than most=poor quailty I'm afraid. Look for oil pan leaks, turbo drain tube leaks, and oil filter housing leaks. Also check vlave cover breather for oil coming out due to blow by or high valve cover pressure due to a bad PCV valve. The 4G63 do not tend to burn oil unless the car has high milage or has a bad turbo. If your turbo is almost gone you would be getting blue smoke out the back, and they fushty smell of oil burn.
