underbody rust worth saving?

depends on how bad the rust is if its flaking off then you mise well prep the oven cause its goose is cooked

You could try naval jelly to remove the rust. Then spray some generic rubberized undercoating to protect it, less than $5 for a can at Walmart.

Romeen has the right idea. My 95 Talon had a bad rust problem. And bad is a huge understatement. But i sanded off as much as i could and used that jelly junk you can get at walmart, pep boys, auto zone, etc. and after u get off as much as you can primer it with that rubberized spray. Its amazing and so far its held up just fine.

yeah that would be awesome and very appreciated if you could provide some before and afters. Im willing to do it right and save the car before it gets too bad. Do I just coat everything under the body or will i have to be removing some parts? Ide like to amke it last for a long time.

Thanks guys, once again fast answers! :thumb:

Living in Maine, you learn a few tricks. I have always used Evercoat's Undercoating. It is the best. Use a decent wire brush(on a wheel with a drill, air tools work best), clean up all of the flaky stuff, and then coat the area and the whole undercar with the undercoating. Works wonders.

Clean it up a little bit and spray or brush por15 on the underside.

A guy I work with also works at a body shop and has talked to me about Por15. From what he says, it's THE best thing you can get for rust removal and sealing.

Sorry about bringing up an old topic, but I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents. Our deck workers on the boat have been using some stuff called Osfo. It basically turns the rust into a protective coat. It's green stuff in a clear bottle.

I'm wire-brushing and using POR15 to restore my 92 Talon. I have a thread in the newbie forum here if you'd like to check it out.

As a bodyman the best suggestion i could give you is POR15. Although there are many things on the market ex. the chemical whash or the $5 undercoating from wally world. If the chemical wash isnt executed properly and sealed with an expoxy to lock out water it will just work its way back out and the same with the cheap undercoating. Some people say there is no cure for rust. But POR15 is definetly the closest thing to it. Its a little pricey but its well worth it. People will tell you that there is no prep needed as this is stated by the makers but allways rember cleaning it up alittle first never hurts. keep me posted on how it pans out.
