Tranny Problems.........

ok so im buying an awd eagle talon next week but the kid im buyin it off of says 1,3,5 all work fine but you cant put it in 2,4,r if anyone could give me some suggestions on what could be causing the problem that would be great....thanxh

Most likely 2nd and 4th are rounded. I unfortunately, (and stupidly) bought my car with a bad 1st gear and ended up dumping way too much money in a car thats only worth 5k. You're going to need to replace 2nd and 4th, and you might as well do all new syncros, shift forks, etc. while you're getting it rebuilt. Be prepared to spend at least a grand in parts. Plus add in your labor and you better be talking this kid down in price. Or just get a new racing transmission from Shep, or TRE. You could also save some money by taking it out yourself, having someone rebuild it, and putting it back in yourself which is what I did. BTW, don't let the tranny shop bullshit with you, they will try and take advantage of the situation, at least the shops around here.

ok thanx for the info another question though my buddy told me it could be shift linkage out of adjustment since it only happens on the gears you have to pull the shifter back to engage is that a possablity or not

Yes, Check the shifter linkage connections on the transmission and at the base of the shifter.
