A squeal when you floor it

Oshawa,
With my 95 Talon, when I floor it it squeals. It doesn't matter on the speed, I can be doing 150km/h but it's not until I put the gas down past half to accelerate that it starts to make this squealing noise, maybe it's more like a whistle noise. I've heard from people that maybe it's one of the pullies or bearings in my timing belt case?

I don't think that it's a wheel bearing because if it was, if I was going fast it'd still make the noise, but it doesn't make it unless I'm givin' er.

Could it be a crack in my exhaust pipe maybe? Sounds like it's coming from the front passenger side.

Any ideas?

Nope, doesn't burn oil, and it doesn't leak coolant, runs perfectly fine other than that.

I do have a vacume leak somewhere, which is causing my rpms to drop when I'm at red lights and only have my break on.

I think it's more of a belt sound. Definetly a belt sound.

Could it be coming from the turbo or maybe it's a leak. I would do a boost leak test and see if anything is leaking. I hope this helps

One of my belts squeaks at startup for a second, and also seems to do the same when i floor it. I would guess its one of your belts either going bad or just being loose. I have all new oem belts comming along with a few pullys. Hopefully this will fix my problem.

lets just hope it wont be too costly of a repair. I'll have them take a look at all the belts and all the timing belt stuff when they do my timing belt change.

They will be changing my timing belt, balancing belt, tensions, and gears.

Nope, they don't flicker at all, neither do my headlights, all turning signals work fine etc. As far as I can tell all electricity works fine with driving and when car was off. Something has gotta be too loose, I think my alternator belt is a little loose though, I'll go home an tighten it.

And ya, I have a Haynes manual for my car, and I have the Chilton DVD for my car and also the eagle talon stock manual.

I replaced the alt belt and power steering belt, but i still have the squeel. Its possible its my A/C belt, but im guessing it may tbe the harmonic balacer as was said. Bad thing i noticed with my tensioner pulley is that its missing the adjustment bolt, and just has the but to tighten down the assembly. I tried to losen the nut and move around the assembly, but its pretty solid, i guess i will have to break it loose somehow? Before i do that i guess i would need the adjustment bolt though correct?
As for the harmonic balancer, do you just go through the side behind the tire to get the bolts off then just put the new one in and reverse the process?

it sounds like either your A/C belt tensioner your power steering or your serpintine belt tensioners are either too tight or too loose

as for the origional post, my car does the same its not under full blast for me, its just at half way or close to that, i think its a intake mani thing, no biggie i cant see the problem no harm done....i did get a few questions if they heard my turbo spooling up.....but sadly i had to say my turbo 420A is at home on an engine stand atm...neways once i get my new engine in ill let you know if that sound persists

Correct you need to remove all belts first, remove the inner cover behind the driver wheel inspect the rubber lining between the main pully and the belts wiggle it to check for play,4 bolts to remove the balencer, wiggle your belts first to see if there tight first, more than a 1/4 inch of up and down play and they will squeel.

As i said i have a feeling it may be the harmonic balancer since its mainly seems to do it at startup, and from what ive seen that seems to usually be what it is. Just bought one off ebay that someone else posted they got and it seemed to be pretty good. Any ideas on the a/c tensioner? I will have to deal with that when i replace the harmonic balacer because the a/c belt will HAVE to come off.

You should replace it but you can get by without it you will need a prybar to put some tension on the belt though, loosen the p/s belt through the two holes on the pully and the lower bolt on the back of the p/s pump need a prybar for p/s pump tension also, cant help you with the a/c mines long gone

Power steering belt is already done. I just pulled it as tight as i could and tightend it down. Does it need more than that? I got the alt belt pretty tight also, was a pain because the bolt kept trying to come off of the mount, but just kept pushing it down and kept going and it seems pretty snug. I will have to double check them to see about the 1/4 defelection. Hopefully i will be able to break the a/c one loose.

I've got an oil change to be done on Friday, so I'll ask them to take a look at the belts and the harmonic balancer etc. I want this sound gone! It's annoying :( My alt belt may be a little loose too, not sure, but I'll have them take a look at everything.

Thanks for all the input! Atleast it gives me something to tell them to look at first rather than just guessing, like uh, check, uh, everything... ? haha.

My advice is NOT to get a harmonic balancer from an O'reilley's if there is one. I got one last June from them and had to exchange it as soon as it came in because the lip was busted off and then in November the new one separated. Now I have put all new belts on and it still sqeels like mad so I am just going with a fluidamper and aluminum pulley.
