Hello. My name is Jonathan Brady, and I use to own a 95 Eclipse Gs w/ the 420a motor. Well I ended up selling it because I was tired of the 420a motors! I just turned 18 and want to get another dsm except with the 4g63 motor and also with a turbo. My main choice would either be a 95-99 Gsx or Tsi Awd. I have heard the 1g's have better suspension and handling but I love the looks of the 2g. Well what I am getting at is what is the best dsm to actually start building? I would rather awd over front wheel. But I was just wondering which would be a good one? Please tell me your opinons.

Sincerely,
Jonathan Brady

Well it madders how much you want to spend. AWD will be cheaper in a 1g. Go with a 92-94 because they have the upgraded brakes and usually 4 bolt rear end. In a 2g I think the best are the 98-99 GSX if you can find a good priced one.

A lot depends on what you want out of the car. Is the car going to be a weekend warrior, full race car, daily driver, etc. If the car is going to see much track time you should definitely go with the 1g. The early 92's are definitely the best of the 1g's with the 6 bolt motor and 4 bolt rear. If it's going to be your daily driver I would suggest a 2g. Also, if the car is going to be strictly a daily driver and see no track time, I would suggest a FWD over a AWD. The FWD gets better mileage and has less parts to break or wear. In the end though it's going to come down to personal preference.

Like the others said it will definately be cheaper to go with the 1g AWD, but I would get the 2g because of how clean the body looks. It is personal preference but you cant beat the way the 2g looks. Good luck either way you go.

the 93-94 has the upgraded brakes, the 92 did not. If your looking for a 2g go with the talon, for some reason they motors in the 2g talons did not get crankwalk, as easily as the eclipses.

Maybe due to the fact that Mitsubishi made alot more Eclipses than Eagle did Talons....Just a hunch though:D :thumb:

Just like you rarely see a laser compared to an eclipse. All depends on your area though too so i dont wanna hear any technicallities.

In MY opinion. The 2gs are a rockin body but think about it. Would you rather have a car that looks better or a car that will perform better. ;) I'm 1g biased of coarse. I think the 1ga's look effin rad.

You also need to take into account the fact that our 1gs are alot older than the 2gs and the extra money you dont spend on a 2g will most likely go into maintenance on a 1g.

Good luck and let us know how it goes. :thumb:

if i had a choice of year i would go with a 91 GSX, cause the 90s are..... different... 90 trannys are more limited in things you can do on them, as i just learned from Jon at TRE. also the 91 has the 6 bolt motor, which i would rather have over the 4 bolt rear end. and next time you replace the rotors, and calipers from wear, you can get the bigger brakes from RRE...

Well I pretty much have my mind set on a 2g but if I find a 1g in good decent shape ill end up getting it. If the 1gs handle better then Ill get a 1g. I just love the looks of the 2g. I plan on getting a shell and building my dsm.

You will probly have to pay out the ass for a AWD 2G. Ive personally driven both and own a 1G awd and they both handle good just diffrently. Of course like 1gCrazy said 1G's have a ton of matinence unlike most 2G's are fairly low miles. You might have to comprimise between. I bought a 92 AWD with a 6 bolt and 4 bolt rear, with only 72,000 miles for $3,000 in California and love it to death! There both dsm's, both have great motors, both have their drawbacks. You get what you want, but remember the first one that shows up usually isnt the one!
