Hey guys I just bought the throttle body shaft seals from Mach V for my '97 Throttle Body. All the threads and VFaq that I see are all on replacing the throttle body shaft seals for a 1g throttle body. So here are my questions:

1.) Is there a write-up for replacing Throttle Body Shaft Seals on a 2g? If not, is it basically the same process on 2g?

2.) According to the VFAQ and the write-up on here by Auto RS-T, I have to drain my coolant. When I do drain my coolant, can I just catch it in a bucket or something, and when I'm done just pour all coolant back into the system that I just took out?

3.) When dis-connecting the actual throttle cable, will it snap back (seems like there is some tention in the cable) or should I support the cable from snapping back with something?

Thanks for all the help

1) Not that I have looked, but I haven't seen 2g write-ups. 2g TB seal replacement is similar to 1g. You will be fine with those as guides.

2) You could, I suppose, if it isn't too old. You can get 50/50 premix at your local AutoZone for like ~$5.

3) It wont go back very far, nothing to worry about.

Good luck with that.

uhh... did you take the cable off? you have to drain the fluid for the thermo idle valve under the throttle body

Uh... I have no idea what you just said. I have not taking anything apart yet, just trying to get some instruction before I do so. So just yank the cable off of the little "lever" on the throttle body and just let it hang? Thanks a lot

Yes, just follow the procedure for the 1g, they are basically the same. If your coolents a few yesrs old might as well replace it but if its new, then yes you can reuse it as long as your catching it in a clean container. The throttle cable itself isn't spring loaded, you have to turn the throttle plate to allow you to remove the throttle cable but once this is done the cable will stay put. One thing to make sure even when you remove the throttle plate & have everything maked for direction & top/bottom, also be sure to make a note of from which side/angle you removed the plate from. If you don't note this you can install it the wrong way & won't realise till you get it basically back together & can't get the spring assembly to work properly.

I just did this a few weeks ago. Sugestion: Do not
attempt to remove the cruise control box from the
firewall, its in the way of the TB. The bottom bolt
is just a pain. Just remove the two studs from the
manifold using back-to-back nuts.

You say there seems to be tention at the throttle cable. It should not be that tight, and it may be causing idle surge problems if the cable it to tight.

Yeah, its not too tight but, you can definately tell that its not just hanging there loosely. I am really excited about fixing this boost leak because I have had bad gas mileage, bucking/stuttering under boost, and a low idle for a long time now.

Just don't go to town on the bolts and you should be fine, the vfaq has pretty much all the info you'll need. The cruise control does get in the way so its best to unbolt the top two bolts, also the coolant lines can be a PITA to reach and unclamp, make sure you either get new lines if they are old or secure them well when you return then, because if one pops off it's gonna be bad, reason I know is that it happened to me haha. Have fun, and remember to recalibrate the tps sensor and all that good stuff.
