ok im having.... issues.... i have oil coming out of my breather filter, oil cap, oil in the intake manifold, oil in the intake of the turbo... and oil on one of my spark plugs. I was thinking it was the pcv tested it and its fine, then thought maybe valve seals or piston rings or both then i found it in my intake manifold and in the intake of the turbo.... which ive only been running 5 psi for almost a year now. Car is running rough like it is mis firing in the cylinder with the oil on the spark plug...... HELP!

You are not going to like this, From what you have just said the piston ring lands in that one cylinder have departed. Unless you can find some other reason it's engine replace or overhaul time.

Just finished a engine change for those veary reasons.

I agree with tgmx1. I am also going through a painful engine rebuild and these exact symptoms are familiar with what was happening with my motor.

In my case, the rings were not sealing very well and one of the pistons was cracked and damaged, exactly where the piston rings are held.

However, you problem could also be that your valves and/or seals are badly damaged, sending a lot of pressure and blowing oil through many of the gaskets/seals. Hope this helps, and sorry to hear you motor may be in such bad condition.

yeah well i hope it is just the valve seals.... i dont want to do pistoin rings..... ill probably take it to a machine shop and see what they think... and get some prices after i install the fmic i just got, would have been nice if it happened before i got it i could have used the $1000 for the engine rebuild!! but what can ya do? thanks for the help guys

You should do a compression test as well as a wet compression test. It can help you determine whether the rings are fried or not...

Sounds silly but make sure you don't have too much oil in the engine. I've heard of guys filling the motor after an oil change, forgetting they did it, then adding more.

If there is oil accumulating in the spark plug well it can trap moisture. This in turn can cause misfire under load as the spark from the connector will take an easier path into the moisture around the plug.

Leaking valve seals would leak oil into the intake and/or exhaust ports in the head and cause heavy exhaust smoke but not the other things.

As everyone else said you may be getting massive blow-by from worn piston rings, damaged cylinder walls, or even a damaged piston as want a gsx mentioned.

Here is a recent thread which may help: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=255606. It also contains a link to yet another active thread with a relevant discussion.

i did a compression test and the cylindar that had oil on the spark plug read 190 which is still pretty good but as soon as i go under boost oil pours out of my engine..... i now have a greddy catch can installed and it filled 1/2 to 3/4 of the way up 3 times in one night of driving. I am looking at new forged internals and my dad mentioned getting a valve job done, he said he would do it for a birthday present (hes the man haha). Between pistons rods and a valve job i should be all set. Any recommendations on brands for the new set up? or maybe upgraded valve components? I was planning on eagle rods and JE pistons. Thanks for the help guys!

If it's only doing it under boost then your PCV valve is probably leaking. It may have tested fine under vacuum but under boost it sounds like it's not sealing well and allowing your crankcase to become pressurized. Leaking PCV valves, unfortunately, are common. Try unscrewing the PCV valve from the valve cover but leave it hooked up to the vacuum hose which connects it to the IM. Pressurize your intake (boost leak test) and check for air leaking past the valve. If it is there is a check valve you can use inline with PCV to prevent this. Let me know if you need the link.

On a factory turbo motor there is, in addition to the PCV valve, a hose that goes from the valve cover to the intake pipe. Under boost when the PCV valve is supposed to close it is this other route that relieves the crankcase of pressure. I'm not familiar with N/T motors than have been converted. But if it doesn't have a similar setup and the PCV is leaking pressurized air into the crankcase then seals and gaskets are going to give resulting in a situation like what you are describing.

i replced the pcv valve thinking that may have been the problem even though the old pcv valve worked fine when i tested it.... i am also misfiring in cylinder 3 the check engine light is blinking because of it

I understand that you just installed a new PCV valve and you may have even done the blow through test first but that won't really tell you if it is sealing shut and holding tight against boost. It may be working fine under vacuum but the symptoms you are describing are highly suggestive of the valve not sealing shut under boost and allowing pressurized air into the crankcase. You really need to pressure test it with an air compressor. Especially since it is a N/T valve not really designed to work under forced induction conditions.

You can read up more on the situation in this thread, start reading at post #39 and look for "the fix" to leaking PCV valves in post #46.

I understand that you have a N/T conversion but the principle is still the same.

As far as the misfire I gave a possible cause in post #6 above. It's possible that something else could be causing it as well but start by taking care of the most obvious problems and most probable causes first.:thumb:

ok.... guys im retarded when i did the compression test i didnt have a lot of time so i just did it on the cylindar that had oil on the spark plug assuming that was the problem.... turns out the cylindar i am having problems with is not that one but instead i got a reading of 30 psi on a different cylindar..... yea i think its time for a rebuild.... thanks for the info romeen i did find it insightful and thank you everyone else for the replies
