Hello all i just baught a 93 GSX with a 6 bolt at leat thats what he told me, but anyway. It wont boost it has some ebay manifold with a ebay turbo :/ . But it wont boost i got on it in 1st and 2nd gear it just felt like a n/t 2.0. I think i now enough about turbos. I just sold a version 4 sti. So i deff no when boost hits, the turbo on my dsm is a 60-1 turbo and the car drove from pittsburgh 6hr drive so it must be in ok condition. It over heated on me a lil bit but it doesnt have a stock res just some made up one in the back of the block becuase of the size of the turbo. I was told it could be a boost leak but i have all metal piping, also give me ideas on my idle i dont think its idle surge. But when i first start it it revs up to like 2k then if i hit the gas and i expect it to go done it just keeps going up but it wont pass 3300 it just kinda stays reving at 3300k but if i do hit the gas it will go hight just wont settle at stock idle, eventually it does. so i was like hmm thats not right. But at a certain point it will idle around 900 or so.. I was told to tighten the idle screw a little bit but i dont think that will do it, but tomar i will be working on it and see how it comes out.. I plan on doing a thermostat and gasket and put a rad cap on it, it had a 9psi one i got a 13 psi so i hope that hopes with the over heating.. So anyone with ideas let me know, i did some research on the idle thing read about idle surge so if its that then i will fix it i just want to know deff. Also i was told i wouldnt feel boost untill 4600 or so and in 3rd gear...
 
4600 seems a bit on the high side, but I've never personally used anything larger than my big 16 so that I can't disprove. Even though the car has hard pipes it can still leak boost. TB gasket, pipe joints, you could even have a hole in your intercooler from debris hitting it, or from corrosion. I'de definetly do a leak test. It sounds to me that maybe you waste-gate is stuck open part way. I don't think it could be all the way as your car won't run hardly with that big of a leak (blown off a few IC pipes myself, LOL). I'd say do a leak test and get back with us! Good luck!
 
Sorry for my post, but i just was trying to put everything done so i wouldnt forget it. But i will try to curb myself on that, yes i do have a aftermarket boost gauge. But i think its a little messed up. It will say like 11 in vac and when i tappe it it will go to 10 or so. Now i have another problem i got the idle down a lil, but know it has a check engine light and wont rev past like 2k so i dont know whats going on. I replaced the rad cap and it helped it but still over heats, but doesnt boil over. But i do have a big front mount and only one small fan which is spliced into the a/c fan. So to turn on the fan i have to have the a/c on, and i dont want that. But other than it not reving past 2k now, and no boost it seems to be running ok. So any help would be great thanks..
 
any help on why its still over heating thanks, also i am thinking about replacing the turbo kit and waste gate, and just go big 16g and manifold, and sell that kit i have now any adivce on anything would help a lot thanks.
 
Honestly, take all the eBay stuff off and replace it with name brand proven products. You kill 2 birds with 1 stone. First you are rebuilding the whole turbo system (hence fixing potential leaks, etc.) and 2nd you are using better quality products that are less likely to fail and cause issues.

As far as overheating, check your thermostat. Also make sure there are no air gaps in your radiator. If none of that works, you may have a bad radiator core, so replace it. If you do that might as well upgrade to a Koyo, PWR, Fluidyne or something like that. They have better cooling and look better.
 
thanks i am looking to just upgrade, to a 16g and manifold, i just have to find a little kit or so for sale so if someone is selling one or know were i can get one as a kit let me know..
 
anyone i got any ideas, i managed to fix the 2k problem. But i am bout to get a big 16g or at least try... But i am going to need help installing reason being is because the coolant lines going into the turbo isnt there. Unless these turbos dont have one so any ideas please let me now...
 
Fill out your profile and do some searching. Come back and ask what questions you need asked and seperate them.

All stock 1g turbos have coolent lines unless yours where removed.

Now all you need is a manifold. What mani are you running right now? I would go with a cast 2g used mani or buy a new cast evo style mani. Ive seen people run the cheap cast ones off of ebay with no problems.
