Im not sure what the material is called, but something similar to the stock rubber intercooler pipes.

My question is would I be able to use this for my fmic piping? Would I have to many leaks through the pipes?

Where can I find this material?

Is it absolutely necessary to by a j-pipe when using a front mount and upgrading to a slim fan? In case it isn't obvious I'm on a budget.

If your budget is that tight then just wait til you have the money. Doing something like that will turn out to be a bigger waste of money and probably not even work. I bought mild steel pipes from summit and had my buddy fab up my intercooler piping. Just wait it out i know its hard, but in the long run you will be glad you didn't follow through on this idea

Thanks man but Im going to go ahead and make everything with hardpipes. It's not that I can't afford it I was just trying to cut some cost.

Still have the question of whether a j pipe is needed ( if so what one is cheap ) and do I need a slim fan?

Haha, well actually I bought the car 2 years ago with no p/s belt and a frozen p/s pump. I'm so used to it that I hardly notice it, all of the broken p/s parts are still on the car so I'm finally going to remove them all.

If you're running low boost (like less than 7psi) it'll be fine. You'll just have a bit more friction and inefficiency. Under high boost these hoses start expanding, causing high ineffeciences and also frequently pop off. I can't count how many times the stock upper IC pipe popped off on my Evo...

Is this a drag only car? No power steering will be a PITA without a manual rack just for some advice. Do as you please, I just wanted to throw that out.

I agree that it was a pita for maybe 2 weeks then you get used to it. Now i can't even tell i think its about as easy as having power steering now except when parking. If you want to save money buy steel instead of aluminum. I had to buy a j-pipe and we cut it and welded it in the other direction to hook up to the pipes. IF you're going to fab the pipes you could just fab a j-pipe might be a bit harder though.
