First of all, is there anyway to tell if a timing belt is going to snap? I know accessory belts will start cracking or whatever. I have ~45K on my timing belt so I'm not really too worried about it right now...

Second, would a kevlar timing belt be better than an OEM?

Third and finally, whats the most amount of miles you've heard on a DSM timing belt/balance shaft belt snapping? And the lowest you've heard or seen a belt snap?

Ever hear of a bell curve? It’s a tool used by statisticians to graphically represent the results of a process. The recommended replacement interval would have to be well below the mean failure interval, say two standard deviations or more.

Even a new timing belt could fail at any time due to special causes. Only a very low percentage will fail for normal causes before the recommended change interval. The majority would last far beyond that point if they were not changed.

Here’s an example of what a bell curve of timing belt failures might look like.
