windsor,
When you first start the car for a lttle while before it warms up, the cars idle will go from a low idle to about 2000 rpm then back down over and over, but after the car warms it runs fine, idles fine.

What would it be, and what and in what order and how would i see shats wrong.

I don't think there's anything wrong with your car...almost all cars i've owned have done that when the temperature is pretty cold. If you are looking for things to check over just in case, your ISC and coolant thermostat are good things to look into. Also, ensuring that you plug your car in might help (whenever I plug mine in, it starts up and warms up just fine). Good luck.

Edit: ISC = Idle Surge Control. There's a vfaq on how to check to see if yours is malfunctioning.

I wouldn't worry too much, cold weather and aged cars, it is bound to idle a little erratic until optimal temperature is achieved.

Im in the same boat, my car was sitting for about 4 months without a start and had a bad battery, so I changed that 2 days ago. But my problem now is, when its cold the car refuses to turn over. it cranks and then every once in a while itll sound like its going to turn over for a second, but doesnt and just goes back to cranking. I know have the correct things to make the car run because it started in a warm garage 2 days ago when i pulled it out after the battery. I also checked the coolent temp sensor and connections were fine. If it helps at all, when the car did start, it would idle extremely bad and most of the time die. Untill it warmed up then everything was fine. The idle was extrmely low, like below 500 low and the entire car was sort of vibrating, more thatn it already does :) any help at all would be wonderful. Thanks guys.
