Ok, so my 98 Gst auto developed a hard tap in the #3 cylinder right after pulling out from the gas station. I thought it was a bad lifter since it matched engine speed, but it's not. My mech said that the valve train was tight. So that means it's in the block, right? That being said, we're going to have to pull the block and have stuff machined. So we're thinking about going with a stroker set up, and use some hyper-u flat top to bump up the compression a bit. The only other mod that I have is a K&N filter using the stock air box, oh, and a windshield sticker. Man that sticker added at least 15hp AT THE WHEELS!!! Best mod ever I think.

What should I expect by way of performance gains. Also, what should I be on the look-out for? My main concern is reliability, with performance a very verrrrrry close 2nd. I don't want to do too much, b/c I'm not planning on BIG numbers or on keeping the car for 2 years or more. I just want a nice daily driver, with some hwy/city get-up-and-go power.

If you want reliability, I would say stay with a 2.0L. You aren't looking for displacement to spool a large turbo. You can add performance in other forms for very little money and still keep it reliable. Additionally, you're not looking for huge numbers, so why sink more money in machining just to bump up the displacement. You might still need some machining to make the block driveable again, but it would be minimal compared to a stroker kit.

I liked this set up, b/c of resell value. I'll be spending the same as far as parts/machining. But when I go to sell it, I can say that it's got a 2.3 in it, and get a little more return on investment. Plus, won't it give me more torque down low? I'd like to get an FMIC and a T28 in a few months, and maybe a turbo back exhaust, but that is still up in the air.

I had a Starion, and loved the torque of that thing. Just enough to get you launched clean off the line until boost kicked in!

If your gonna stick with the t28, stay with a 2.0. That turbo is small enough to where the spool up time wont be an issue at all.

Like mentioned above, people do 2.3 strokers to get better spoolup on big turbos. Also I beleive with the stroker, your not supposed to rev past like 7000 -7500 rpms. Id rather have a EVO III and run it up to 8K (with built head and cams of course) than have a t28 and shift at 7K.

With the money you save sticking with the 2.0, you can buy many parts which will net you higher HP.

The 2.3 would be a great base to start with. Even if for now you will have only a T28, down the road you could upgrade to something a little more practical for that engine like a 30R or what not. As for the reliability, its no less reliable than a 2.0 as long as you keep the revs under 9000 rpm's. If your realy interested in one shoot me a pm or call me at the shop, 724.349.8417 ext. 10. We can discuss your options and see what you might want to do!

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feed back. I'm working w/the T25 right now, but I'm not sure I won't go bigger in the future. This car won't be seeing any tracks or 7k revs. I'm an auto, so the tranny will shift well before then too. This will be my daily driver that my fiance drives from time to time too. Ofcourse I do do some stop light racing on occasion like everybody else here. But no 7k needle diving!

What should I see as far as hp/tq gains. I'm not asking for exact numbers, just wanting to know how much I'll feel it in the seat.
