Im going to college this coming fall and I can only bring one car with me. My choices are my 1991 Pontiac Firebird, Bright red, V6, 135,000 miles, great paint, great interior, great engine, a few preformance parts, and a sweet audio system. Or a 1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Turbo. 140,000 Miles, Brazil Green, hood needs paint, moon roof, interior is great except for the rear trim panels, turbo might need to be rebuild, it had bad idle surge, a new "stage 3" XTD clutch kit, other than that its all stock. Ive probably put at least 100+ hours into the firebird and only around 10-20 on the eclipse. Try not to be bias even though this is a DMS forum.:|

this is a DMS forum! LOL ***DSM***

I'd say keep the DSM, firebirds look ghetto... This is only my opinion, take no harm... whatever makes you the happiest, go that route

Honestly, I would say go with the firebird. It might be a little more reliable, believe me you'll kick yourself when your eclipse will need some maintanence, even though it's a DSM forum. And DSM, not DMS..........

I know its DSM not DMS, just a spelling error. I dont have to get rid of one I just cant bring it with me. The firebird might be more reliable but it potentially much slower. I hear I can get 400hp or around there on the same engine block for the eclipse. If I were to try that with the Firebird I would have to drop in an LS1(which if I keep it im going to do).

Take the firebird. I have own a 91 firebird and a 95 gsx. The firebird will be more reliable and way easier to work on. What are your intentions to do while at school and how far is your school from home? If your taking the car just for a daily driver and not looking to mod it at school and get 400 hp I still say firebird unless your school is within 50 miles of home.

Its about 100 miles, 1.5 hours to get there. So, I could come home on th weekends to work on it. I want it to be fast enough to mess around on but im not going to go all out or go to a track.

Well its up to you. You know which car is in better condition, motor wise. Being a college student do you think you will extra cash to blow on car parts? If modding a car is what you want to do, you will have enough cash, and be happy doing this then bring the eclipse. I think its easier to make fast than a firebird. More than likely you got the 3.1 v6 which is like a 17 to 18 second car stock. Also a one legger.

How is the weather where you will be? My firebird was like driving a brick in the snow. It was the worst thing ever.

I would go with the eclipse. Its quite a bit more fun to drive than a 91 firebird. You can throw less money at it and it will be quicker, and if you dont beat on it - its reliable. DSM's are also prone to breaking becuase people beat the piss out of them usually. Not saying everyone, but lots do. Best of luck. Im also a college student and I wouldnt drive anything else : )

I don't like the look of firebirds, and it is a v6... therefor you should go with the eclipse. Probably a little better on the gas mileage too.
