Ok here is deal. I have a 96 gs stock with 146,000 miles on it. And my future plan are to rebuild and turbo charge it just a mild build. But it's going to take me awhile to save up for all that and the car run's fine for now. But i'm not wanting to run stock until i do all that. I want a little something under the hood. And i don't want to waste any money buying part that i can not use when i do the full upgrade. And i don't mind getting alittle into the top end like cams and stuff. I know exhaust, cai, cams. But is there anything else i can go ahead put on to set me up for my future build. Would a Crane stage 2 cam be ok. And how far can you go before you cross the line as a everyday driver. I sorry for all the questions i use to know all this stuff but i've been out of the loop for a couple of years and forgot all of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

You should look into to doing your fuel system.

Something like:

1. A whalboro 255lph fuel pump
2. Bigger Injectors (maybe 680cc or 780cc)
3. High flow fuel rail (AEM makes a nice one)

Slowboyracing.com has really good prices. They've been good to me thus far.

Thanks for your advice. I went to slowboyracing and the AEM fuel rail is only for the 4g63 do they make one for the 420a if so where could i find it. And will my engine handle the extra fuel with just bolt on. I was on one website looking at the injectors and it said if i just had bolt on's to look at other performance products first. And does anybody have experience with OBX. Cause on cimotorsports.net they carry a fuel rail and intake manifold by OBX.

Personally, I would spend the money on handling and good seats rather than some tiny hp gains that will be nothing when you get the turbo on. A good set of seats will really make the car more fun to drive because you have better control. Plus they look sweet. :thumb:

I have no experience with nitrous and i don't want to blow it up. And you only have the hp gain when you use. And i want something that is constant. And as for the seats what are some good seat that have all the adjustment cause i'm 6ft and need to have my seat reclined so my head is not in roof for a good price i don't have deep pockets.

Stay away from eBay cheap-seats. I am 6'4" and while I did fit in my car with a set of eBay recliners, I broke the recline mechanism twice. The metal they use is super soft and at our height, the leverage we have against the back is pretty high. Both times the recline mechanism broke I was digging for my wallet and the teeth on the mechanism rubbed right off. :notgood: I paid $350 for a pair, shipped and now my driver's seat is an office chair.

I'm going to switch to Corbeau Forza rigid race seats. You can pick them up for about $200 shipped if you look around.

Otherwise, check out their reclining seats or go for some Sparco's, though they are more expensive. Used Evo buckets are popular as well, though the blue center stripe on some models throws some people off.

You could do the normal exhaust, short ram,(I say this over the CAI because i re-used my ebay filter and pipe even after i went turbo) headers,( I've seen people use the downpipe part of these for the downpipe after the turbo swap). All of those are a good start, but help a ton.

I would do something along the lines of things that you can use after going turbo, like the mods I suggested above, or, if you want more "pep to your step" read up on nitrous and see if you could get that to work. You will be very happy with the turbo in that car. It makes a huge difference. Good luck

You do not want to run a whalboro 255lph fuel pump without a adjustable fuel pressure regulator. This is a good upgrade, and you will most likely want to do this with the turbo upgrade anyways. but make sure you put the afpr on at the same time as the pump.

1. CAI
2. EXHAUST
3. WHALBORO 255LPH fuel pump
4. BIGGER INJECTORS (680-780)
5. HIGH FLOW FUEL RAIL
6. AFPR
What about the OBX intake manifold or what other intake manifolds are there and where to find them? So all that takes care of my fuel and air? What's a good injector? And what about cams, ignition and anything else you can think of.

On the 420a platform you do not have to run a fpr with a 255 pump. I ran a walbro 255 hp pump and stock everything else fuel wise on my 420a when I boosted it. Ran great. Nontheless, a fpr is a good tool to have under your belt.

Also, I think a short ram is a good mod on a 420a if your not looking for a huge gain and dont want to deal with the whole sucking up water and rocks with a CAI. It is also reuseable when you go turbo, but so is some of a CAI most likely as well.

unless you are planning on rebuilding your block with forged internals you don't need the fuel rail or the injectors. the stockers are good up to about 8psi which is when the stock bottom end starts to become unreliable. if you still do decide to go this route, i would use an afc to help with the idle prolem that you are going to have with the injectors.

i've heard that the obx mani is not nice by any means. people have had to redrill the mounting holes to get it to fit, shave off some of the valve cover, etc.

just my .02:coy:

ok from what i've read about the obx intake manifold it's out of the picture. So will i see any hp gain in doing what all of you have said or is it just setting me up for my future rebuild and turbo plans? And i'm really wanting to know about cams!
