shaftplay on a new turbo

i just got my new turbo the other day and it seems to have a bit of shaftplay. it is the PTE 50 trim BB version. do BB turbos have some shaftplay? maybe this is eliminated when the pressure is added while running. does anyone know?

It could be cause the turbo has no oil in it. remember oil take up some of that play but it will be real minimal. one thing you can do is find out the manufactures maximum shaft play range and then inspect your turbo.

Correct. All turbos have a minor amount of shaft play while NO oil pressure is present (more up/down as opposed to in/out). As stated, if you're concerned, check the specs to confirm your turbo is within those specs.

the turbo doesnt have any oil or oil pressure going through it, thats why it has some play. youre fine.

Yes my MHI evo 3 16g had a little bit of shaft play when i first got it, after it was installed there was even less then what it had at first. Not a big deal unless you can move it back and forth a decent amount.

what type of bearings do those turbos have? i was under the impression that wet floating have the most play, correct me if im wrong..
