just need to see if anyone on here knows how to tune and log with a automatic.

what we did was have overdrive off. RPM's at about 3k and punched it. We have it set at 20psi on the 14B.

mods are: 14B ported along with o2 housing and manifold. 3" turbo back exhaust. MBC. 3" thick FMIC. 1G crushed BOV. 550's, SAFCII, denso 190. Hacked MAF. K&N filter.

It would keep a constant 20psi but my EGT guage pegged out. past 1600. Prop if I would guess hit 1800. I let of , we tried it several times looking at timing using the logger with OBD guage software, it gave us weird reading.

Would show 7 then shoot to -1 for timing.

I'm hoping its the software, it refreshes the readings every 2.7 seconds so it hard to tune. I posted in the general section to see if anyone would be willing to share/provide a copy of pocketlogger.

Thoughts on if it is the software or would those reading be true? Car ran fine, kept pulling hard.

as for the MAF, i only took out the sides. Car runs fine ran fine boosting 15psi and seemed to stay at 14/15 timing before the injectors/pump went in.

Get pocketlogger if you can. I used it for quite a while before I got DSMlink and it was fine to tune with. However, I had an older PDA that I tried at first and it also gave me some odd readings and ran very slowly until I got a newer unit.

As for tuning the automatic, leave the OD off, tune for 16-ish degrees and hope she holds together with that much timing/boost on that small a turbo. For your high EGT readings, I'm betting you've got it mounted in the downpipe instead of runner number one, yes?

Keep tuning.

Pocketlogger can't be "shared" unless you have the actual cable; the license key is built into the cable/interface, and the software license is locked to the username of the PDA. If you know someone with a PDA and cable with pocketlogger already on it, you could use it on your car (must be a 2g pocketlogger cable), but you have to have both the PDA and the cable.

I'm not understanding what wildfire is saying about having the EGT mounted in the DP, because the exhaust will be much cooler on the outlet side of the turbine (the turbine de-energizes the exhaust gas, so it actually cools it). Maybe I'm misunderstanding something.

Anyway, I've heard that above 1600*F may be too hot, but you might want to search around for a good upper limit where you should ease off. Don't know if this is lean or not. If you can get a better logger, you should be monitoring timing advance, RPM, and front O2 voltage. A decent logger would get you around 10 samples per second.

I'll take you two's word for it on doing an auto tranny pull, but whatever you do, you need to get 20 or so data points during one pull and then look at the data. If your O2v drop significantly, you're leaning out. You can't tell a/f from the narrowband, but if it starts at 0.93v and drops to 0.4v, you're leaning out. Also, if you're knocking, you'll see it in your timing curve as dips or flat spots. However, you can't tell much at one sample every few seconds and timing advance showing -1. Your timing should be in the 20s pre-boost, then drop maybe to single digits (I've seen as low as 4* in logs running 20psi boost) when boost kicks in, then advance smoothly back up into the high teens or low 20s by redline. Again, you can't see this without a decent logger sampling rate.

If the EGTs are high due to a lean condition, you're risking your motor. If your timing is being pulled all over the place, you may be knocking - and risking your motor.

If you have the funds, just buy a refurbished Palm IIIc or similar and pocketlogger (total of maybe $175 max for everything). It's not very safe to run an untuned car. I'm not saying that it's not tuned right, but until you have a logger you can trust, you don't really know.

In the down pipe, you've got hot exhaust gasses hitting the probe for every single engine stroke. In the exhaust runner, you're only getting hit with the hot gasses once every four strokes. Which is hotter? Getting hit once ever four times or getting hit every single time continuously? My gauge ran noticeably hotter in the DP than in my runners. Especially in WOT. Cruising it was over 1100*-1200* all the time. But, as always, YMMV.

Happy tuning! :thumb:

The EGT probe is mounted in the number 1 runner.

I dont have the 02 sensor wire tapped (blue wire mod) cause I have heard it will mess with the cars reading or smoething along that line.

I was a bit confused on what you were saying there. Especially at the beginning on the sentence.

Also what rpms setting things up. Using the SAFCII it, you can set things in lower rpms and adjust more than the original.

example: by 500 or 1000? say 1000,2000,3000,4000,5000,etc.... or ?

On another note, how are they putting something in a cable. Is there a chip in the cable that keeps you from loading the software on another palm? (well I ment registering it)

I'm assuming ones you load the initial download on the palm is recognizes the name created and stores it. is that why it wont function on other loggers? Just curious I guess.
