Okay, well I have DEQ to go to, taqs are expired two weeks now. I order an o2 sensor online, gets shipped to me today, I go to install it, and then notice, I don't even have an o2 wrench to take it off.

So my dad says just take it out to the mechanic he usually gets work done on. Take it out there... The guy does a real shitty job. Ends up cutting the little heatshield in half:notgood: and ends up having to lift the car up.

Long story short, I end up starting the car and the headlights turned on along with it, even though I never turned on the headlights. I end up driving it out of the shop and then my dad tells me to turn of the headlights, and im like they are off. I look at my headlights and theyre on..

I then turn them on from the inside and thats when the alarm goes off. The guy takes the negative battery terminal off and it turns off. Now my remote control to lock the car doesnt work.

Headlights dont work.
anti lock light is on.
powerdoor locks dont work
windows dont work
radio/cd doesnt work

So my question is.. did something short? The guy said take it out to the dealership, but am I going to get charged? I'm sick and tired of this car. I just want it fixed and sell it.

Evidently, your mechanic has no business under the hood of your car. Without knowing exactly what he did, I wouldnt even know where to start. IMHO, I would either make him fix his f-up or take it to the dealer and make him pay the repair bill. My question is why didnt you go to your local auto parts store and buy a $10 o2 sensor socket instead of having a mechanic charge you $25+ to swap it out for you?

I've brought the car to him before, not the GSX specifically, the car I drove before, which was a camry. My dad seems to trust him, and figured since all we needed was just the o2 sernsor socket then we could just go there and he'd do it free.

Now that I think about it, I'm pretty pissed.

Well could it be the security system? That guy seriously knows nothing about Mitsu cars...

I wasn't pissed or cared about anything at the moment, but I am now.. He cut the heatshield in half to get to the o2 sensor. Who does that >_<!

Read post 3. Did you check your fuses because that is most likely what happened. It's not the security system.

What part of the heatshield did he cut off? I bet you on the lower heatshield he cut off the piece under the o2 socket. It's not an uncommon place to snip away the heatshield to facilitate removal. It's not necessary to cut it though to remove the heatshield just takes some manipulation.

Again I'm sure the car is fine, just check your fusebox. He probably didn't disconnect the battery while changing your sensor and popped the alternator fuse.

Time to get familiar with your own car.

You are completely right and thanks for posting, you made me feel a lot better, but that was the first thing I checked, the fuses. None are blown out. And yea he didnt disconnect the battery when he took the o2 off.

Is it possible that only one fuse can kill the audio, lights, alarm, windows? And the antilock light on?

Thanks for the replies btw, greatly appreciate the help

EDIT- Okay, it just passed my eye, but I noticed the fuse for the alternator is out. Can that cause the problem for the rest of the car, such as no alarm, pwr door locks, windows etc? I also have a problem with taking it out. How do I take it out. You can't pull it like the rest.

Yes. I did the same thing when changing my o2 sensor out. It popped the alternator fuse.

It has those symptoms like in cabin electrical items not working. When I turned on the headlights the horn turned on too.

The fuse is held in by two bolts on either side. Get a fuse of the right size at local car parts store.

Right now don't drive your car. It's going to be running off battery power only. If the fuse is popped your alternator won't charge the battery.
