Okay, so here is the situation. My alternator just died because my ps pump is leaking fluid all over it. I know that there is rebuild kit that mitsu sells for about $70, or i could relace the O rings on the banjo bolt. but i really dont want to fix it have it leak again in the future.

I read some where that you can remove the ps pump and use the same rack with out switching to the manual rack. Does anybody know the proper procedure for removing the ps pump and capping off the lines? If some could post pictures of what and how to cap off the lines that would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Wayne

Anybody?? HELP!

I dont have any pics to show you but what I usually do is cut the power steering lines on the bottom driver side of the firewall and take a piece of hose and loop them together.

mines used to leak and i had put like a bunch of silicone and window weld on the bolt and tightened it down real hard. It sounds ghetto but its not leaking any more.
I would like the removing the ps for more space/cleaner look/ one less belt to worry about, but I like my handling too much and my car handles like crap without power steering.

I have had no power steering for about a year and a half. I have the line looped just like described in the eariler post. It isn't that bad until you try to park or creep slowly in reverse and turn. Once driving it gives a little better feedback at speed, but if i had the option to try over again I would purchase a manual rack and do it right.

I am a HUGE fan of manual steering. Looping the lines on a power steering rack is ghetto. Find yourself a manual rack from a junkyard, or buy it on ebay brand new for dirt cheap. A real manual rack is way easier to steer than the ghetto style.

thanks for the responces guys, are the lines i want to loop; The line going to the rack (down) and the the line comming out of the resovior (front of the car)? Should i just go get hose from auto zone (like a 2 1/2 ft section?)

I think there's a quicksteer hub adapter now available that would close to double your steering ratio. I did some searching and couldn't come up with anything on the web, but I swear I saw it in a mag. Anyone else see it anywhere? If so I think this would help your low speed struggling with a converted power steering rack.
