To all you dsmlink users out there how accurate is "estimated afr" feature in dsmlink. will be picking up a wideband with dsmlink but when you use water injection doesn't your wideband read wrong cause the of steam in your exhaust??? a local supra guy down here said that when he installed his meth kit his tuner said that you have to tune it differently cause the steam affects what the wideband reads is this true? if so then I gues I would have to use the estimated value for afr if its decently accurate.

Something I never thought of though is to use race gas with meth injection and tune to something aggressive like 12:1 or12.5:1 afr then go back and use water injection and pump to keep that afr even though the wideband won't read it at that afr if indeed the water injection skews your afr readings.

With water injection you can lean out you afr, gaining a little bit of power cause all that fuel in there is only there for cooling(to supress knock) and get a little better gas milage(well with less fuel making the same power anyway)

Wiseman please correct me if I am wrong in anyway, I read alot of material at once and sometimes the info gets mixed up in my head LOL!

why not tune till u get a desired af:r watch knock if your knocking just start richening up until knock is gone or see your af:r before and after using the water/meth and see if it changes much.

Well water/met injection does a couple things, water is very good at absorbing heat, so the water cools your intake charge to help prevent knock. Now meth has an octane rating of something like 118, the higher the octane number the more heat it takes before it ignites (knock is cause from pre detonation). As for the air/fuel est in dsmlink I found mine to be pretty dame close to my WB readings after full spool & once you have a stable boost reading, that is as long as you have the props setup properly to match your injectors & deadtime. As for the WI changing the WB reading this Im not sure of, most of the time I wouldn't worry about get a 100% dead on air/fuel ratio. Boost first & then timing make the most power with air/fuel being the least in most cases. So if these first two are where you want them and your air/fuel is in the ballpark, you should be good.

Hey man thanks for the reply I was just wondering about the estimated afi feature and it looks like I might just use that for now cause after I purchase dsmlink im going to be broke!

I used mine as well before I had the WB, just tunned it abit on the conservative side as I didn't want to run it too lean (& preferred more boost & timing). I shot for right around 10.5 to 1 & when I installed the WB I was right in the ball park from about 10.5-10.8 to 1.

Hey man, thanks for the info, I was a little worried about that feature not bieng accurate but then i thought as long as you don't have a boost leaks and a good motor/spark etc. it measures airlow knows exactly how much fuel it puts in so it should be able to calculate the air fuel ration accurately enough for now until I get a wideband.
