Im in the market for a 16g turbo. I noticed that I could get a b16g turbo from forcedperformace for 446. The e16g is around 550. I wanted to know at 18psi would there be a difference between the 2? I know the e16g is a little bigger but is it worth the extra money at such mild boost?
thanks

i have driven my friends awd with a b16g, and drove my fwd with the e16g. definitally a difference. nothing extreme but the eb16g is better at the top end rpm range. not by much but u can def. tell the difference. its worth the extra money in my opinion. i wouldn't know what type of diff. might be there from an awd to fwd but thats my 2cents

Thanks man!!!! Since I was only going for 18psi I was told to just stick with the small. I was told that the e16g is really alive at 21psi+
Also u cant really compare the 2 cars!! Ones fwd and the other is awd.

Sorry, but that is a very flawed comparison.
AWD and FWD is pretty much apples to oranges. I realize you're just trying to put things into perspective for the guy but I honestly don't believe that the EVOIII 16g is $100 worth of more turbo than the regular b16g.

To substantiate my claims I suppose I should go into more detail. I'll just break it down into bullet points as I'm still hungover.

- AWD has more drivetrain loss (and weight) that is most profound at low rpm's but shows up easily in the top end when going head to head with an identically built FWD. The FWD will pull on the AWD everytime. Thats why the comparison doesn't work.
- It has been shown in previous threads that even a s16g is almost identical in output and possibley even more efficient than the EVOIII 16g at lower boost. At a higher boost threshold of 20+psi the EVOIII 16g begins to more efficiently perform and outflow other 16g variants. That alone makes the EVOIII 16g a "superior" turbo, but is it really $100 better?

When I purchase my turbo I'll get an EVOIII like everyone else does. But that doesn't mean the b16g is layed to waste. Plenty of kick in that turbo still that might be perfect for someone looking to shave a dollar or even 100. :dsm:

I have used both: B16G and Evo III 16G on my 91 GS-T...the difference was minor, but noticable. While cruising on the highway, the E16G had a little more top end (when comparing to the B16G at the same boost level). When turned up to 23 lbs I could pull away from alot of F-bodies on the highway =)

I have a Big 16G currently, opted for it over the E3 cause with the extra money I bought a Walbro 255. I've driven a e316g car tho and it did have a little more punch up top, but unless all you do is freeway race it's not worth the extra $100 IMHO.

I am not a big fan of the big16g as its a pretty inefficient turbo according to the maps I have seen of it. Given, it can make a small bit more power then the small 16g, I don't like it near as much. This is really up to you, the e316g can flow more and spool slightly faster, but the $50-100 you save by going b16g can go towards DSMLink, Fuel, or a Meth setup... or even tires, maintenance or something else.

If the money is there, I would go for e16g, if your strapped for cash, then b16g... that simple

Also, Turbochargers.com has the Evo 3 16g for $499 and Dejon has the E3 16g for $459 (I think its the GT version)
