Hey guys I got my head off with exhaust and intake manifold bolted on by myself! I'm sure your all wondering what the hell I am doing working on my Talon on New years eve! Anyway my piston tops have alot of layers of carbon? I want to see if there is any pits in them, how should I clean them? Just poor sea foam and let it soak? I don't think sea foam works, I ran it 3 weeks befor I put my car in the garage. I got a video of the carbon buildup if your interested.

YAy carbon build up video, i have seen some people clean there parts with acetone and its works amazing, but i am not sure where to get it from or if thats right.

I would use a gentle cloth of some sorts, a wire brush could scatch up your cylinder walls pretty bad if you were not careful.

You can get acetone from any paint store....My work buys it from Sherwin Williams...

I use that stuff all the time.

Id let it soak, use a wire brush to get the heavy stuff off, then wipe the rest...Perhaps repeat if needed.

Make sure theres no seals or anything like that getting soaked, cause they will disolve.
Some moron at work left some paint stuff sitting in it, well, we no longer have that stuff....

OH YEA!!! Wear gloves!
This stuff is bad for you.

DONT use any type of metallic brush. or wire brush. I tried it, and, well, the pistons tops looked like a cornfield. If youre gonna use some type of brush, use a NON METALLIC coarse bristle brush. If you have a bench grinder, some of them have a brush on them. But, just use a coarse brush, b/c the metallic brush will remove some material from the pistons if your not careful.
