i recently installed a 16g turbo on my 97 eclipse gst. it works great until about 20psi then it just stops making boost. as soon as i get out of the throttle its fine but its like the turbo stops working when it reaches 20psi. i was wondering if there is some kind of restrictor on the mass air flow or something

16g pushing 20psi on stock internals eh? is it controlled? supporting mods?

I dont know about other people but my brother runs 20psi daily on stock internals, dyno tuned with no knock. Others have ran 24-26psi easy on stock internals safely.

Now if he is running that much boost on stock fuel system thats another thing. Tuned with all the supporting mods a stock block can take 24-26psi on a good motor.

I think Dave meant to say stock injectors. cdalton28, let's continue our pm here.

Sounds like something is going to blow up hahaha.. do you have any supporting mods? More importantly what are your fuel upgrades like most people said this sounds like a fuel cut too me. Since stock injectors i believe can only handle 15 or 16psi:confused: But I know its not 20.

Thats not good if your trying to run that on stock injectors, wow im surprised nothings happened yet cause it seems like you have been pushing it to get it there.

If you are running on a stock exhaust that might also limit your turbo's performance. When I put my 3" downpipe it really opened up the turbo and it felt more alive. Like the others said above, you do need some moderate supporting mods to run a 16g at 20 psi. You need at least 550cc injectors, 190 fuel pump, front mount IC, and the exhaust upgrade. That would be the safe thing to do and have. If you have all these and your turbo is still limited to only 20 psi,.. check for exhaust leaks and/or boost leaks.

Since some of you have put effort into his post, I will update you on our pm conversation since I have a feeling he isn't going to respond to this thread. Basically he is running 20psi with just mbc and a vented RS. I have already told him the boost needs to be turned down to 15psi and the BOV needed to be recirculated but he told me he sees no reason to recirculate, as most of you know how I feel about a vented BOV so our conversation pretty much stopped there. :)

I will give the OP the opportunity to respond to this thread and seek other's advice but I will close the thread tomorrow if he doesn't respond.

If I were you I would take advice from people who have done this before. Like oldman, theres probably a reason he thinks you shouldnt vent it. Also if you did not know you cant run 20psi without mods you shouldnt have got the turbo and there thats another reason to listen to the people above.

Yeah if you are more worried about your car sounding loud other than performance then keep the BOV open. But just a stupid question, whats your wastegate set at for the 16g? It could just be the wastegate holding it back. I mean have you tried adjusting the MBC?

I know for a fact it's not the wastegate, He doesn't have the mods to support what he's trying to do. Turn the boost down and just make the bov sound it'll sound the same at lower boost. Also like oldman said he probably won't be back in here.
