I have only seen one car that had a race exaust exit the front of the car by the passenger tireit was like a down pipe sideways. This was a car up at milan ,michighan, i was wondering if anyone else knows about this setup or knows if it helps or hurts backpressure?

wouldn't it be the same as running an open downpipe? only diverted to the side. it's not like there won't be any back pressure.

Spinning the turbo requires energy from the escaping exhaust to drive it, therefore causing unequal pressure zones. in effect causing back pressure before the turbo. I don't see a problem. in a n/a motor an open header has no restrictions risking burnt valves(?)

but i could also be wrong. at the strip i run open dp.

Ok, every motors different... tuning wise, thats just may be the exhaust tune he wanted. look at it like this.... when you have a garden hose and it's wide open the stream just dripps out on the ground... but when you put your finger over part of the hose it creats back pressure causeing the stream to shoot harder, more powerful, it all just depends on the correct tuning of what you need. maybe that guy liked the results of his exhaust setup? it probably showed more performance out of it.

or maybe he just wanted to be different. it really doesnt mater after the dp as long as the exhaust is big enough until it ends and doesnt create turbulence
