MAFT setup, install and tuning

Youll need a datalogger if you dont have one already.Theyre not that bad to tune with,my only complaint with mine is that its takes a while for the fuel trims to change. But youll have that with any tuning device. And yes it just plugs right into the harness for your old maf and into the gm mas.Youll need to fab up an intake of some kind or buy one thats made for the maft setup. You can use your afc to fine tune it also.

OK I went ahead and bought it but now what i want to know is there a 0 setting on it like a safc that it will just run stock. with the one i bought can you even use it to tune. I was just planning on using my safc to tune and be getting the better fow with this and venting my bov. Anything and everything will help.

Hey, i need to know if the maft comes with base settings or will i have to tune it when i first get it, because i just want to use my safc along with it, also when i install it will i switch the safc from karman to hot wire? please reply fast so i can install as soon as possible.

You need to install the maf-t in your upper intercooler piping between the bov and the throttle body if you plan on venting.

You have to unscrew the translator box, and set the settings to the stock settings for a 2g dsm, which I think are base 2 aux 4 or the other way around. Look in your user manual for the 450 cc fuel injector settings, and double check.

Then you install the gm maf in your upper intercooler piping, plug in the translator and tape off the other two wires. I'm using dsmlink to tune, so someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think the safc is the same way.

You don't need to use the other two wires if your tuning with the safc. I can show you a few pics of where I put mine.

Don't even bother installing this until you have bought a logger. The settings that the instructions recommend will not even be close to what you will need. Without a logger your car WILL run like crap, whether or not you can tell from driving it. Pocket loggers are cheap, so don't be an idiot. Without proper tuning the MAFT will hurt your performance.

MAFT installation is simple, it plugs into the factory maf harness, with a little trouble as it is not the right shape (maft plug is square whereas the dsm is round, you'll see what I mean), other than that there are two wires. The purple one is for nitrous oxide or the like, just cut it and don't worry about it. I just crimped the included connector onto it. The other must be tapped into an RPM source, where is up to you. A search will find you plenty of information on this. If you want pics of my setup just let me know.

Since you sound like you're doing this to vent your BOV to the atmosphere, install the MAF after the BOV and before the throttle body. I recommend you either cut your hard UICP and use silicone reducer couplers, or buy an UICP designed for the GM MAF. I have the one from dejon tool and I recommend it assuming you haven't upgraded the stock one already. The dejon tool GM MAF UICPs are of really nice quality, sound nice, and work great.

The last thing you need to buy is an intake. I have the Dejon pipe with the KN filter. Between not having any restrictions before the turbo, hard intercooler pipes, and a vented BOV my car sounds sick. Turbo spool up is loud as hell and the blow off sounds great.

If you want some control over your fuel settings, or want to vent your BOV, this is a great modification. Otherwise the GM MAF is not worth the money when other modifications will yield a larger horsepower gain, however i'm happy about my purchase.

hey guys im having problems with my afc it wont read throttle position right its really dumb, it reads 100% when floored and 0% when off the gas but in the middle theres not really much it reads like 6% when its 3/4 throttle ive replaced tps and everything ive checked all the wires and still nothing right,

Let me tell you it is a faulty SAFC. Is it used? I had a friend who bought it used and he had the same issues, and it was the Safc.
Do you have another friend with the same type of Safc? So, you can test it by swapping them and see if the problem goes away.

Sorry to hear that.:|

awww im heart broken ok well ive just decided that im gonna go maft gen II and tune with it since its got the wideband hookup and it can handle a 3" gm maf sensor so its better the the afc for the same price

its got the ability to automatically map out a air/fuel ratio just off the wideband and what u say u want it to be.... pretty much tunes itself "sick" LOL.
