I have a '90 fwd 5spd 4g63t eclipse I rebuilt the engine and replaced the clutch. I finally got the motor and tranny back into the car and it started right up. now, after sitting overnight, i come out and there is a decent amount of oil under my engine and it is coming from the front area of the engine. when i rebuilt i heard of the issues with the bolts on the oil filter housing and made sure that they were at the equal length when i put it all back together. i put a new oil pump, mains, rods, rings, pistons, everything looked right to me when i put it back together but i am also more used to working on v8's from the sixties. i also do not have any oil pressure now, but i did when i initially started the car. also, i am having trouble bleeding the clutch system. i could really use and suggestions anyone can give me. thanks in advance.

Fist of all, with no oil pressure, DO NOT RUN THE CAR. Add some oild and find the leak. Pull the engine or MPI fuse under the hood (to keep the motor from starting) and have someone turn it over while you look for the oil leak.

I have very little experience with engine internals, but... How is the oil pan gasket? It'd be worth checking torque specs on everything oil related.

I assume he is still using the 90 oil filter setup, but just incase he changed to the 91+ for some bizarre reason check to be sure the filter post hasn't backed out.

BTW, did you have the turbo off? If so, did you use new crush washers on the oil feed lines?

i didnt run the motor after i started with no oil pressure. when rebuilt, everything was obviously cleaned, everything was torqed and double checked, the oil pan is alright. turbo was off and crush washers were replaced. the oil leak is somewhere on the physical front (pulley side) of the engine. still have the '90 oil filter set up.

did not overtighten or anything, everything on the top half of the motor seems to be dry, it mainly seems to be coming from either the filter housing area, or behind the timing chain cover somewhere

Check your oil pump drive gear... When we first installed my 6 bolt, we forgot to hit the oil pump drive gear with the impact. A couple hundread miles later it came off, leaking lots of oil. Also, did you relace the front case?

i put a new front case/oil pump on the motor when i rebuilt it. when i did so, i torqued the gear bolt as per the manufacturers specs. pain cause i took out the balance shafts.

it just sucks b/c i can't understand why i had oil for the first time when i started the car, it ran in the garage for like ten minutes when i was checking the timing etc., and when i went back a day later, i had an oil leak and filled it back up w/oil, but now no oil pressure and can't even locate the leak

(how i feel):barf:

im gonna ask the question just cause i don't know.... can i take the t.c. off and take the oil pump off of the motor w/ it still in the car? thanks

you're referring to the one at the rear of the block, right,? it would be the back of the silent shaft? or is there one i am forgetting? thanks....
