The title explains it all. My buddy and I are thinking that it's running a little lean. The air box doesn't have all of the prongs to keep it closed and the rubber hose is cracked getting too much oxygen. Also, the plugs are rusted on the outside (bought new ones, intending to put them in, bought new wires as well along with a new air filter...anyhow...) Also a possibility of the rotor. Runs fine when not at a stop sign or light, so that's what we're thinking, that it's running lean. The alternator is covered in oil, but I don't think that would do anything to the idle problem. In any case, that's the problem, going to replace it all, but just curious what it might be.

One more thing, how much does an ECU cost to replace? I noticed that the Mitsubishi ECU's tend to fail because of the company that made them for Mitsubishi did not realize that in the long run the ECU's tend to leak all over the board itself, causing problems. Think it's around $90.00 to buy a remanufactured? Amy I correct?

Uh... Not to contradict you buddy's fine sense of character and Technical abilities to Diagnose a problem like this, but have you covered the Basics? Besides the massive amounts of unmetered air that your engine is ingesting*which may just be the source of all your problems - don't trust me word for word but Like I said... The Basics

- Fuel Filter may need a change
- Fuel pressure - verifies Pump output
- Fuel volume - Also verifies Pump output
- Operation of your Fuel pressure regulator Solenoid
- Dead Head Test it (some times you have to)

our 4G63's DO NOT have secondary ignition componets such as CAPS and ROTORS.....

After driving for sometime you reach a point where the car acts fine, but its only at idle or cold start where it fires up and falls on it's face right? check all of those components,

as a side note:

Mitsubishi Electronic manufactured the ECU/ECM for our cars. And the reason why the capacitors leak is through the life of the vehice it experiences heat/cooling cycles. I especially gets worse as you ad HVAC variable into the picture. Over time this "cycling" causes the case of the capacitor to swell and leak a volatile elctrolyte on to the Printed traces (PCB) on our ECU. If you haven't already had your Capacitors replaced I highly suggest you have it done.
