I attempted to install the walbro 255 on my 90 TSi tonight, and now the car wont start. It all seemed like it went perfect too. I've searched and everyone is talking about taking stuff off the bottom of the car and the tank being under the back seat. Mine is under the spare tire. So i pulled all that out, disconnected the plug, and then took out the 6 bolts holding it in at the top. After i got the unit out of the car, I removed the stock pump, put the strainer, o-ring, cap, and spacer on the walbro, and popped it into the housing. I then disconnected the blue wire from the top of the pump housing, and connected the red wire that came in the install kit. I then disconnected the black wire from the housing and connected the supplied black wire to there. Then i just plugged it in and put it back in the tank through the top. I did notice some resistance putting it back in, but it still went over all the studs so i tightened it down. I went to start the car and it cranked over a few times then stopped. it blew the ignition fuse (30A) in the tiny box on the side of the battery. I replaced that and it did the same thing after about 10 seconds of cranking. So for the sake of experimentation I put a 40A in there and disconnected the plug going to the fuel pump in the hatch. Cranked for a good while with no problem. I plugged the fuel pump back in and it still cranks endlessly. It doesnt seem like the fuel pump is even turning on. I noticed after that i spaced putting on the foam sleeve, but i dont think that should make a difference.
