I have had a remanufactured engine put in 1k ago, and at that time I bought a Forge BOV and had the engine shop put it in. I got the BOV from Slowboy, and I called them about it as the part was listed as an EVOIII BOV, they maintained that they had used this set up on DSMs plenty of times with no problems, even though the nipple is on top instead of on the side as in the stock 2g plastic BOV. I asked them why they did not stock the Forge BOV specifically made for a 2g, again, they said thay had used this with success.

Anyway take a look at the photo, hose is kinked some due to the position of the nipple. I think that this kink is kinda shady, and my gas mileage is 10.65 mpg. I reckon I need to do a boost leak test...

If your hose is kinked you need to repair this immediately because you are changing the vacuum pressure with it kinked. Try using a t or elbow to make the 90 or use a longer hose and loop it a little. As to fuel mileage it never hurts to do a boost leak test but also to when was the last time you checked your plugs even though the motor is fairly new. Also just for the sake of it check your timing marks becuase I have seen several cars come into the garage from other shops and the timing belt has been off one tooth which can affect things. Do your boost leak test first and keep us posted. Travis

Yeah - That line shouldn't be kinked like that. Granted under boost it's less likely to be kinked but still, I would address that sometime soon.

Regarding your gas mileage, that is god awful low. As you mentioned start with a boost leak test. Are you throwing any CLEs?

I have not had any CELs come on... car idles fine and runs strong. I mentioned the horrible gas mileage to the engine shop, and they said it's they way I drive. Not that they have ever ridden with me mind you. How can there not be a problem there, used to get at least 16 mpg mostly city driving. I'm the same driver, OK, yeah who among us is not going to step on it once in a while just to taste a little... But, my habits are the same, car is the same with the exception of a 3" turbo back exhaust, and the BOV. I should have stood my ground and returned it to Slowboy like I wanted to, that was my mistake... I will get the kink ironed out ASAP.

Why do you want to retuen the BOV to Slowboy? Forge doesn't make a 2g specific BOV. The evo uses the same connection style (where it connects to the upper intercooler pipe) as the 2g, that why the evo BOV works. As for the nipple not sure why forge takes it off the top on that BOV, while most of their other have the fitting on the side but the location of the fitting has no effect on the BOV as they both are positioned on top of the diaphragm. Like the others said rig something up so you don't have a kink in the vacuum hose & you'll be set.

The BOV wont effect your gas mileage, have you verified that your O2 sensor is working properly?

^^ Yes, even though you have your BOV recirculating, you are not changing your gas mileage in any way. If you are running more boost- yes. Other than that no.

HAHA, in regards to the BOV Vacuum line, Literally!
Are you sure you arnt going deeper into the throttle and getting boost to hear the sound of your new BOV+Exhaust? I know that with my car if I am really good I can get over 25mpg and while beating on it I use 1/4 tank doing 2-3 1/4 passes at the track. You could be driving a little different and not realize it. With these cars staying our of boost is how you get good MPG. +1 on the o2 sensor, check to make sure it is cycling. Do you have a logger?

Forge does make a 2g specific BOV, which I noticed when I got the package, and l looked it up. Easy enough to rig something up though, called a bud, he has an elbow that should work. I asked him about the O2 sensor, he said it would throw a CEL, bit he also said it could get gunked up... I will have to check that. I have no looger to check it myself though.

Here's the link to Foerge's 2G BOV:

Well, I have to say I am enjoying the new exhaust and BOV... love the sound, seems like I have freed up some ponies, and yes I probably would get better mileage if I mellowed out some, but 10.65 mpg, that's really bad indeed

Hmmm, I stand corrected, they do offer a seperate one for the 2g & evo. The link you posted is for their no recirculated model though (they do offer a 2g recirculated). Unless your running GM MAF, thats not the version you want, stick to the recirculated one. Don't worry about swapping it though as like I said they are pretty much the same valve. The evo & 2g use the same style connection & the only difference is where the nipple is on the top hat. The design & operation between the two will be the same.

As for a bad O2, Im not sure it will always throw a CEL, someone will have to verify this. But if you haven't done a boost leak test recently, thats another good area to start. It could also be like others have said, your just trying out the new parts a little more then you usually do :thumb:

I also stand corrected, that was indeed not the recirculated model... I did get a 90 degree elbow with a sort of a stent in it, but the problem now is height... I might have to carve out some heat shield to get it to fit under the hood. No biggie though. My friend who had the elbow on hand found my exhaust to be quite sooty, I may get a compression test done on the engine, thinking the bad mileage and oily smell may be blow-by. I really hope not...

Daren is right about the o2 not always throwing a cel. If it is cycling slow it is still reading just not as fast as it should be. The only way to tell is with a logger or some type of scanner like a Snap On or Motis that a garage uses. They reccommend that at 100,000 miles you should replace your O2 sensor just because of age. I went ahead and ordered a new set of O2 sensors, 109k on them in any event, hopefully that will help, and it will be good maintanence anyway.
