Just wondering....

I cant affor to pay for all the new gaskets and such I need during my rebuild. Most of em are metal or copper that Ive seen. Is there really anything special about these?

I want to make my own, I have all the tools for it ( I work at a machine shop). So I guess, can I just cut some steel or copper or something and use it? Or for like the head should I layer it........

I guess I would just like to know if I can do it or not without it failing on me....

And if all else. It should be fine to use like sheet metal or something for the smaller gaskets right? I could use SS too, we got lots of extra. Use that for teh exaust mani and turbo flanges.... I dont know. Just cant afford to buy em all.

you could try and then tell us how that went, unless someone has a good reason why you shouldn't

Never make your own headgasket. Just get a stock one or Felpro. I ran 22psi on my Big 16g on a Felpro and I think it cost $22 at Autozone. Other than that the rest of the gaskets will be material and a kit will be very cheap. You can probably make your own turbo gaskets and o2 housing one's too but I would just buy a headgasket. Do it once, do it right.

I've got to agree with 95blackGsTurbo. Do it once, do it right. Buy a gasket kit from Autozone, Kragen, Napa, wherever. There is no reason not to spend money on a good fel-pro kit when rebuilding your motor. It's like gluing your house together instead of using nails.

I know what your saying...

Its just that online some of the kits are a few hundred bucks....

Ill look around more then to find some cheaper ones. I did find some better priced headgaskets.

I was just thinkin of making which ever I coud really.... But ya, as much as Id hate to pay it Id rather not rebuild just to ruin it.

Speakin of which, started on the car today, engine comes out tomarrow...All I gotta do is get the down pipe off (its like JB welded on or something), remove the axles, and get one pulley off....Then take off the mounts and out it comes...Not as bad as I thought it would be, so far............

Go OEM on the headgasket. Go Felpro on others. I don't trust Felpro headgaskets, I had one fail on my 550miles later on my neon, and that was NA. Bought an OEM, paid twice as much, but its worth it. Especially the Mitsu gaskets, they are cheap, and can handle some serious power.
