Hey Guys My name Andy and im 18 years old. I use to have a Evo VIII then got a S2000. I missed the 4g63 to much. So i started to looking in to Dsm. I Found a 1995 Talon Tsi. Im going to get rid of the S2000 if i get this car and get a othere car in spring time. I was wondering what are some bad things about 2g Talons? How easy are they to mod? The car has 1510000 Miles Soo that means it would need a rebuild Motor and trans. This car is Strickly racing. And i have some great DSM shops around me like AMS Devo Tunning :).
Soo my goals for this car are 500-600 on Full Boost and race gas. And on pump gas for it to be able to be a daily drive ( not saying it will be. But telling my self that it is just makes me feel good ROFL ) Yea soo do you guys think i should go for it?

Thanks Andy.

Ps Sorry for my gramer. Its 3:21 Am Didnt get any sleep.

Hey man, first to say you must have a nice amount of money...evo8, s2000, LOL. well 500-600 is definitely doable in a 2g, especially with your...funds available. I see that youre right in Morton grove, Im live in Des Plaines (currently at NIU) if you know where that is. Luckily for you there is a great group of us dsmers in the area. If you go on dsmtalk forums in the meetups section, there is a great thread going called ILLINOIS MEET UP. Its pretty much all of us from the Chicagoland area that meet up, help each other out. etc

For the car, Honestly with the amount of money you seem to have available, you can very easily mod it, and get 350whp and even close to 400whp off of just bolt on mods. You should be able to cruise into the 550-600whp range with a built engine and good supporting turbo.

As for bad things, and any other questions you have, we have a great FAQ section that will cover many of the questions you may have. Also there is always the search feature, you can look up anything you want.

It is really hard to say what is "bad" about the car, without getting into the gossiped and bias opinions of people.

Feel free to PM me for anything or getting a chance to meet up with some dsmers in the area(most of us are age 17-21) together we have a great amount of knowledge of dsms

well, as far as easy, its easy to get to 400 hp, then you have to start looking at getting into a little more serious internals to handle much above that, its not going to be cheap persay to get 500-600, but its very obtainable. I dont know how serious you are about racing, but i would absolutly make sure the tsi is a awd, fwd's require a tremendous effort to obtain the same goal. Second, if its purely for racing i would also get a 1g, 90-92 awd because your going to want the 6 bolt because the 7 bolts will crank walk on you especially if your wanting to run that kind of power. Not to say you couldn't do a 6 bolt swap, but the 1g's are a little lighter as well(like 50-110lbs). Whatever you choose, 1g or 2g, you can go real fast

make sure the tsi is a awd, fwd's require a tremendous effort to obtain the same goal

Yes I forgot to mention that, awd will get you quicker in the 1/4 mile that fwd at the same power level

because the 7 bolts will crank walk on you especially if your wanting to run that kind of power

As I said before, gossiped...crankwalk is over rated. Between my friends, and me. We own and have owned a total of 14 2g's and never had any run in with crankwalk......
so its kind of a bold statement to make that if its a 7 bolt it will crank walk.

The car is a AWD yea i know that awd will give you better times 1/4 mile. This crank walk is the only thing that worries me about this car. I like the 2g better then the 1g look wise. And weight Not worried i will gut the hole car guted out and just add a Bucket seat. the fund of money isnt to bad. k here is where i need some help. the place i want to buy it from is really weird they cant speak good english. soo i dont know if its awd or Fwd they say it is. but how can i find out for myself. any part of the body look diff? It has aftermarket rims soo that will be a poblem to tell by the rims.

Thanks bOOST

There will be a long drive shaft connecting to the rear diffential if its AWD. FWD dont have this. Also dont worry about crank walk. Its overrated. That car has a lot of miles and would have seen crank walk by now if it was going to happen. I would just start doing a lot of research and looking at mod lists of the guys who have this power.

you could also run the VIN number.....that should say if its awd or fwd

i believe in the chiltons car manual it shows the vin decoder, so if it has a certain letter in a certain place its awd, if its fwd it will be a different letter.

Just as a thought, in a general sense-you ask what are some bad things about 2G Talons. I'd say it's not so much the cars in general as it is specific from car to car, but your line of thought about replacing engine/tranny is probably leading you in the right direction. Something to consider is that with many things on a car with that many miles you're going to be doing a ton of preventative maintenence on whatever isn't swapped out as part of your buildup.
The good news is that's a great way to get to know your car; but you may well be busting a lot of rust and cussing at a lot of stuck parts. That's all part of the fun of it all though. Given that it seems that the dealership your working with may be somewhat challenged, you might want to be especially sensitive to any vehicle history and do more than just the casual glance-over/test drive.

I doubt you'll regret it, but at the same time, definitely go in with open eyes about the amount of work it takes to upgrade a 11 year old car that may have had nothing but oil changes till this point.
