Ok guys, I have read the vfaqs and I can't get rid of grinds into second and third gears. When I shift from neutral to 1st to 2nd and to 3rd the shifter doesnt want to go into gear easily. Sometimes I have to put the car into neutral and then try putting it into gear. It really sucks getting stuck at traffic lights trying to get the d@mn car into gear.

What could this be? I've adjusted the two shifter cables and I'm gonna try the master cylinder tonight but I doubt it is that.

If the master cylinder doesn't fix it check your slave cylinder for leaks. Your synchronizers are probably bad though. Common 1g problem.

How did I know the car was a 1g before I even opened the thread?
Fill it with GM syncromesh synthetic fluid. That took away my 5th gear grind completely and smoothed it out. If that doesnt make it better, your snychros are probably shot. Thats not the first time that has happened on a 1g.

Deffinatly your synchros. I had the same problem for over a year and just delt with it. Finaly I gave up and just had my tranny rebuilt. Have only driven my car around the block since I put it back together but it is so nice to have a car that shifts smooth again. I agree with hereitcomes try using the GM syncromesh synthetic fluid but remember its only a band-aid for the real problem.

so if the sychros are bad a would need to have the tranny rebuilt? not surprizing with this car.

Just need the synchro's replaced. A good fast technician should be able to do it for around $300. As long as there isn't damage to the gear, in which case your going to ruin another set soon after you replace them.

im gonna try the sychroshift first, then if all else fails :(
