What's up again guys. I spent all day installing new shifter/plate bushings and adjusting the shifter to try and fix grinds/mishifts. As I was test driving my car I noticed that after a few shifts in a row my clutch starts to get really light, resulting in some gears not engaging.

I have heard around the forums that the throughout bearing dies after about a year, could this be what's happening to me? I'm not sure if I even have the act tob or if it's an oem one. I just need some insight and/or advice because I feel pretty shitty about everything. I Just got fired, car doesn't shift well, and a deer ran into the side of my car like 30 minutes ago and destroyed my driver's side fender

Start off by checking out your master and slave cylinder. Check to see if anything is leaking past the seals. If so, replace them. Then bleed the system and see if that helps.

If you say so I'll give it a shot. You dsm wisemen know your stuff :thumb: Ill post the results in the morning when I check it out because im exhausted right now.

As for the deer: I hope I broke it's neck so it didn't have to suffer much. I was only going like 25 mph, but it's neck hit the frame pretty damn hard.

I only saw one cylinder on the firewall and it had a patch of rust on the bottom, but I did not notice anything leaking.

Hmmm, I dont know why after a few presses the clutch starts to lose its effectiveness. It engages about an inch off of the floor, which, i was told by the previous owner, is due to the act disc/flywheel combo.

Is anyone else having this problem? And I'm really having trouble finding the sweet spot adjusting the shifter cables, they keep coming loose when im driving.

I don't think the clutch or TOB is your problem here. If your clutch was slipping or you had excessive noise from the clutch when depressed, I would look in that direction. Otherwise, I would consider bleeding the clutch system thoroughly. You may have a small air pocket in the system that expands as the fluid gets hot. This may be giving you your spongy feel and not allowing your clutch to disengage properly. There is a master cylinder (firewall) and a slave (tranny bellhousing) that may be near end-of-life as well.

This FAQ may help in the bleeding process.

not sure but I think the stock tob and act tob are different and not compatible? at least that was my experience when I had a act 2600...mine felt like it lost it's grab after about 30,000 miles..i replaced it with a fidanza stage 2(not good clutches in my opinion, nice feel but hold less power by far). maybe get a stainless steel hose so the lines are swelling up? could be the slave too...doesn't sound like a clutch issue because you said it gets lighter which sounds like something else

thanks for the replies, I think I'm going to bleed the system with some clutch fluid from the autoparts store. If that doesn't make a dfference I will try and adjust the the master cylinder rod as seen on vfaq (I will probably end up doing this anyway to adjust engagement height)

If after this the clutch still gets soft, I'll have to find out if either my slave or master is on its way out.

I appreciate all the help and will do my best to keep you all informed:thumb:

O yea I have an ACT TOB as well, Should I replace it?
