Hello members. I'm not sure if this is allowed, but I wanted to know what everyone thought about this deal in the classifieds. http://www.dsmtuners.com/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=55209&cat=7 My girlfriend has $1500 that we can use to get the talon up and running and another 1K after taxes. The compression on the motor leads to rebuild so I am wondering, should we go with this deal in the classifieds or should we rebuild on our own? Is this a good deal, should we get this? After shipping we should be about $1150 or $1200. Is it worth it? How much more to get every thing we need to get it installed and running? Thanks.

No offense, unless she likes a car she likes to work on.... get her something reliable with no work. You can get plenty of cars under 2k.

Thanks for the quick reply. We already have the talon that is needing a rebuild, so buying a different car is out of the question. The car is actually hers, but we want to work on it together and get it the way we pictured it. I was just wondering if it is worth what we found in the classifieds or spending that $1500 she has to rebuild it ourselves or waiting for taxes where she plans to having another 1k on top of the $1500 or just get this one in the classifieds. Thanks.

Anyone else? Please I need some input here.

Just to clarify so there is no misunderstanding. The ad is for a rebuilt motor in the classifieds. Not a car for sale. We are not looking to buy a different car, there is already a dsm that is the project car. Weighing out options to get car running with the amount of money that is available. For all that is done to motor and head, is this something that we can do for the same amount of money with all the work involved. The work would be done by me and my friends, I am talking about cost wise for parts and machining. Or is it better to get this for $850 plus shipping. Thanks.

Yea it looks like with that engine youre still gonna need the front case, timing belt, tensioner, etc.... thats upwards of 400 bucks right there. Im not saying that engine wouldnt be a good deal ......

With a rebuild on the engine you have, IF everything is in spec (if you were lucky) you would only "need" a hone with some bearings and rings. Of course thats an extreme, but its something to think about.

For what you are trying to do, I would highly recomend find a complete longblock for sale.

A) anytime you try adn rebuild a motor, you'll end up dropping almost 2K, especially if you do all the maintenence items that you should.

B) Picking up a half finished motor will still require a fair amount of money into gaskets, timing belt, front cover, seals, etc.

C) picking a complete longblock, stock or not could be done for anywhere from 1200-2000's for a used longblock with that has been recently rebuilt. (like 5-10K miles.)

with 2500$ total, I would look for a cheap motor (how much does karking charge for longblocks?) and use the rest to do some maintenence and modification.

I actually looked into karking today and called them as well. However I dont like what I have heard so far about their motors. I just might go the rebuild route ourselves. Thanks for all the responses.
