Possible Master cylinder: rattle noise in first?

I regularly let my girl drive the car on the weekdays and I take it on the weekends. So she called me yesterday saying the car wouldn't get into gear. Immediately I thought Master Cylinder because I have suspected that it was on its way out.

Before incident: clutch would squeek from inside the engine compartment after a period of driving. You can "feel" the squeek on the clutch pedal.

After: Car won't get into gear after driving 20 mins. Clutch pedal felt heavier than normal (SBR 3500) She let the car sit 30 mins and it got into gear again, first was slightly difficult but when in gear it drives smooth, still first was difficult to gear into. This really made me think the Master was gone.

EDIT: The car makes a rattling sound while engaging first, after engaged its fine...
The clutch was installed last year..never slipped/launched. What could this rattling be? She says it's coming from engine bay driver's side. Something wrong with the clutch plate?

I haven't had a chance to see the car yet, that will have to wait till FRI, but I'm trying to get a idea of what I have to deal with here.

Usually a rattling like that could be clutch chatter with isnt a big deal, Other than that its your through out bearing. the Squeek you described is probably the springs on the clutch disk.

By what you've described im guessing you've popped a spring out of the clutch disk or your through out bearing has gone bad..


By the way what made you think your master cylinder was going bad ?

The clutch and TOB are one year old. TOB is OEM that came with the SBR3500.

I suspect the Master Cylinder because I've read of people with the same squeaking noise fixing it after changing master/slave.
The squeek happens after the car has warmed up and driven for 20 mins ish (before incident) . It also sounds with the car off. Usually after 1 hour with the car off the symptom goes away until the car warms up again.

I don't think a spring popped out or else you would be able to hear rattling when the car is engaged. The rattling sound happens only getting into first gear, once engaged its fine. Other gears shift no issue.
 
a popped out spring on a clutch disk would be a constant, it would affect your shifting even when cold, could very well be the master cylinder, the seal inside could be ripped/worn and begins to leak when warmed up.
 
You can check the master under the dash and see if it is leaking. Mine died and was leaking brake fluid all over my carpet. Pull back the boot on the slave and if you find any fluid, at all, replace the slave.

What are my options and what will it cost?
I'm thinking of replacing both slave and master same time.

Whats the cost brand new?
Can these be rebuilt?
 
personally id try the cheapiest route possible first just becuse your not completly sure of the problem try finding one a junk yard or off someone on tunners...

ok i have a smilar problem, but with out the chater. I have a problem that on a cold day the clutch will engage with my foot to the floor. so it will get stuck in gear I have changed out the slave cylinder and removed the slave resivior, with nothing. not to mention i got an extended clutch rod. SO im guessing try your master cylinder it seems to go away though after 20min of driving.
