Alright. For starters, I have a bone stock 97 GS. I know that it comes with ONLY 140hp. Is it possible to get it to 200hp or over without having to smack a turbo on it? I want to get the most out of the engine before I go and do that. Roughly, how much would it cost to atleast hit the 200hp mark? I'm just trying to find out to know just how much $$$ I'm dealing with here. Can anyone help me?

If you're looking for 200 bhp, I think it'd be cheaper for you to have bought a turbo 2G in the first place. Even stock you'd be starting out with 210bhp. By the time you mod an n/a to that point you'd have spent nearly the same I think. You are looking to increase the n/a's power by 43% after all. That's substantial.

Unless you use nos like he said.

You might as well bend over and let the banks rape you in the butt all day long. You are going to need major port work, some sort of cams, lots more air coming in, alot higher compression, bigger tb, 2.5 to 3" exhaust (no low end at all) alot lots and lots of engine work, I would also look at stroking the baby because this will set you back around $6k-$8k unless you have some miracle ideas :) :) oh yeah, at least give it a try like my buddy he thought full exhaust and stuff would raise him alot but on the dyno he gained 10 crank horsepower ROFL but seriously, look into the treadstone tubro kit, it comes with a turbonetics or garrett turbo (your choice) turbonetics w/g and is $1700. www.treadstoneperformance.com or buy the hann or star turbo kits around $3000 for full name brand. Sorry bout the long post. later

Like Rice over Wheat said, in the end you'll be spending just about the same, if not more (depending on brand names and which way you start off). I know how you feel. I been working on my car and keeping it n/a, but you just want to have that boost. One thing I wouldn't do is nitrous unless you plan on getting colder plugs, maybe retarding the timing a bit. But nitrous only lasts so long, you know? I'd go with full exhaust, full intake system, pump up your spark a bit with a full MSD conversion. A set of nice cams (expensive as all hell, though). Then throw in some small things like a Fuel Pressure Regulator by B&M if they still make 'em.. Lol. My friend bumped up his fuel pressure 8-9 psi (it's in between that mark) and made 11 wheel horse at the dyno, so that little piece will get you some results. Or maybe I'm just talking about of my ass.. Lol.. but good luck man - Get it all done before you start boosting. Get some pullies, race clutch so you grab gears n icely (I'd go with Exedy, but ACT is good just more expensive). Will you get 200 wheel horse? I don't know, but you'd be up above the stock 140.

Ok. First, I'd like to say thanks for all the advice. Now, if I was to add a turbo(ofcourse after upgrading some major parts to work right with it), about how much hp's would that turbo give me? I mean, that should push me over the 200hp mark right? I'm not talking about some outrageously price humungoid turbo either(although that would be nice).

I saw a guy running mid 14's in the 1/4, all motor 2g eclipse. I think he had a dyno slip of around 165whp and is the fastest n/a in the nation. So im guessing it would be really hard.

Are you sure that it's the fastest in the NATION with ONLY 165whp???

Any-who...I am going to have to get this engine rebuilt for this tuning to be done. My car is at 166XXX miles. Do you think it would be better/cheaper for me to buy a used engine off this here internet or just get that sucker rebuilt?

That is going to just be a waste of time and money, but if you must do it. I had a v2 cold air in take, dc sports header, stock exhaust (bad decision) safc 2 and 75 shot of nitrious. I made are 200 whp and 250 wtq. I blew all my heat shields off the stock cat back LOL. The thing is my motor was a 4g64 sohc. So it still took me that much to get that little of hp. I think this 2.4 still has more potential than the 420a, but if you goto a neon forum they might know more.

Yes, that's Matt. His is the fastest 420a n/t in the nation. Believe me, he's done his research too!

Honestly, you'll spend more money trying to hit the 200whp mark n/a then you would with buying a turbo kit. Granted, it's not for everyone. If you cannot perform simple maintenance or general upkeeping of the car, then this install is not for you. You need to do research around here, and 2gnt.com. Although, I prefer Tuners MUCH, MUCH, more.

You can piece together your own kit for less than 1500. Check the TECH/DIY section for more information. GSGOINFAST(Chris) has a five star recommendation for his write-up titled: How to build a turbo kit for less than $1000. I literally just talked to him on the phone, before reading this thread, and he's still had no problems with the set-up in that review. You should get a good grasp on the concept of how a turbo system and motor work in general before you jump into the project.

Anymore question, concerns, comments, post it up of PM me. I'd be more then happy to help.
