OK so I installed the 14B this past weekend. I broke 2 of the exhaust manifold bolts. Didnt know i borke them till I got the bolt all the way out. I think I was able to thread one of the bolts back in snugly. It was the the two bolts on te top far left side looking at the engine from the front. I was really worried that I would have a huge exhaust leak. But like I mention I think I was able to get the first bold back in there as tightly. So far no leak. I used new gaskets and they seemed to be thicker than stock ones and put high temp gasket maker on all the sides. Let the stuff dry for about 15 hours before starting the car.

Here is my issue now, I drove the car and basically for time being am only running 10 psi ( or whatever the wastegate is stock set at). Even at that level the car seems to pull a lot harder than the old T25. But Im a bit worried cause I cant hear the turbo spooling like i could the t25. The old thing I could hear it on the high way or at low rpms sucking in air and then whistling. The 14B on the other hand is pretty silent I would say. At WOT though I can hear a loud high pitched sound. Is this normal?

Car has ported manifold, O2 housing, turbo partially ported on the exhaust inlet, and has a 3" turbo back exahust with high flow cat.

Should I still be able to hear the turbo like befor?

any suggestion?

ps: I did prime the turbo for oil like suppose too. No smoke or any weird noised at start up.

No it won't be as loud until you get an intake pipe and open air filter. 14b's don't sound the same as the little T25.

I guess I should have mentioned it as well, I have a FMIC, hard piping all the way from turbo to the Throttle body. Only rubber is where I had to connect the pipes.

I do however still have the rubber stock intake with a K&N cone filter.

Should I be worried about the high pitched sound? Its not like a grinding sound more of a really high pitched sound.

like in movies when something is getting ready to blow.

How much boost are you running? My sounds like a jet taking off at 21psi. Does it have any shaft play?

Im only running what the stock wastegate is set at. I think 7-10 psi.

I'm not going to run more till I get the 550s in there, new 190 pump, and do the fuel pump rewire. Then I will prob raise it to 15-20.

I already have the injectors/pump/ and doing the rewire is a matter of going to radio shack, just didnt have the time to do the install on those so to play it save, I keept the boost low.

Shaft play, barely any very very little side to side. No more than my stock t25 had.

well, im glad you did the swap yourself, its not hard, however my first time doing a swap did take me like a day from being paranoid.

Anyway, we all loved the T25 when we first got our 2g dsms because they spool so quick. Unless you have a KNN fpik, or other type of open cone filter it will be hard to hear the turbo spool, I went directly to the 16g instead of the 14b, but both turbos don't really spool/pull till about 4krpms but the advantage is that it pulls all the way till redline.

Did you buy the 14b rebuilt or used? And shaft play? does it burn oil?

Happy modding

not to be rude, but most of your questions were already answered if you read any of the previous posts.

The turbo was bought used. I primed the turbo before start up, it did not smoke and still does not smoke. Wheels spin freely as well in the turbo.

Perhaps cause the turbo is set at such low psi maybe thats why I cant hear it.

I guess im just used to hearing the T25 sucking in the air and then boosting. Was a nice sound.

Yeah the T-25 is waaaay louder then a 14b. Once you get your hard intake pipe you will hear that bad boy a little more. I could care less if my 50trim made any noise as long as it make power that's what I care about.

ok, just wanted to make sure. I figued it pushing more air it would be louder than the T25. I liked the sound but its not a must. Just wanted to make sure thats how it should be.

anyone care to give me an idea on the high pitched sound. Would that be the turbo? Wasnt ther before the install. It only comes at WOT.
