i cant get my timing marks any closer than this. they are almost parallel with the top of the head (in fact i think 1 of them is perfect). if i try to take the belt off and make them line up then the belt is in between teeth and i cant get it on. am i doing something wrong or is this good enough?

by the way its a pretty new belt. i put it on and didnt replace the tensioner because i had bought the wrong tensioner so it skipped some teeth and crushed my valves, i just replaced my head and this is how far im along.

if it's in between teeth pull the exhaust cam 1 more tooth clockwise so it's a little bit off, as you tighten the belt it will line up... like it says on the vfaq.

without the belt holding the the gears, thy are going to be off. you need put the belt on and put some bulldog cips or locking pliers on each gear.(there not going to line up without any thing holding them)

There are a few things-1 what head gasket did you use, because I have heard of thinner head gaskets causing problems. 2 Make sure your crank mark is lined up and start your belt at crank go by idler pulley on to intake cam gear then to exhaust cam gear. If your crank is off a little this will make your cams not line up right because when you look at it it looks parallel but isnt. Your intake gear will stay in place but you should have to turn the exhaust gear to get it to line up. Try it and let me know. If you want email me at [email protected] and I will send my phone # and I can try to talk you through it. Travis
