Hey peeps,i have 2 questions regarding eprom ecu's. I tried searching but found nothing regarding my specific questions.

My questions are:
1.How do i know my ecu is eprom, mine is fried and i bought another one, they both have weird numbers on them.

2.What does "socket" or "socketing" the ecu mean, and what is it done for?

Also the ecu i bought came off a 1991 awd tsi, i installed it and it works mine is fwd, don't really know if there is a difference.

Thanks in advance, any help is greatly appreaciated.

That should let you check out the ECU to decipher if it's an eprom.

"Socket" In this case, is a socket pin, that is soldered in your eprom chips place, and then your chip can be placed inside of it. The advantage is the ability to change to a different chip/tune it, etc, without havening to hard solder the chip itself to the board.
