Reading of a crankshaft angle sensor?

This is actually my first actual post on the site, all the questions I've had have been answered by searching the forums, . I didn't know what forum this would fit best so anyway, I know that a crankshaft angle sensor measures the movement of the crankshaft but how do you read the crankshaft angle sensor? Does it display something or do you have to take it off and measure something? I'm lost on this topic.

You don't typically, the ECU does. It provides the ECU with triggers to help it time when to fire the injectors and spark plugs. The indirectly read it by attaching a timing light to cylinder 1's spark plug wire and making sure that the ignition fires at 5* BTDC when the proper adjustment leads are grounded or the correct mode is set indise the ECU. Most of the 2G cars don't have any adjustment so all you can do is check the timing.

Thank you for clearing that up for me. But is 5* BTDC just the measurement when the spark plug should fire? I'll will definately download the tech guide, thanks for the link.

Only at idle with the check timing connector or the bit set in the software.
It's a special mode for adjusting the CAS. Normally when the car is running the ignition timing at idle wil bounce around 8-10 degrees depending on engine temp and altitude.

After your done reading the tech manual you'll have a better idea.
