Winnipeg,
Well I just got my tial 38mm in today and I hooked my bike pump up to it to make sure it works good (bought it used) and it opens fine but it does leak boost. I assume this is not suppose to happen. It leaks from the shaft of the valve where it goes up to the spring. Is there something I need to replace or can I compensate it with maybe using a boost controller without a bleed hole and use the leak as a bleed hole?

Also there is a very slight gap when the valve seats. It doesent look like it will effect anything since it is so small (The only reason I know its there is because I can see a very tiny bit of light around the rim of the valve) but I thaught I would mention it anyways.

Thanks

I opened my 38mm wastegate to change its spring and have a close look at it as well. For your boost leaking problem, I think the silicon gasket is broken. You can order and replace it. Second thing is the gap, It will leak no matter how small the gap is.
So, replace your gasket first and tight all the screw REALLY tight.
Just in case that you never open a wastegate before, you will need a big C clamp to hold the top of the wastegate to the base in order to unscrew all the screws. It is impossible to do without a big C clamp. I recommend you to upgrade the spring to 12psi so you can run at high boost safely.

*** I assume that you test it correctly. Just curious, how could you test it with the bike pump ?

I acually opened it upalready to see if there was something stoping it from closing 100% and to see exactly why it would leak. It can be done without a clamp but getting it back together is pretty hard. I couldent see what might be causing it not to shut 100%, I also tried to see if there was something stuck in the valve or something but i couldent see anything. As for the leak how would I diconnect the valve from the metal plate inside? The only bolt or nut i saw was right at the base of the chamber where the valve goes down to the exaust passege. Is that what I would unscrew?

When I tested it I hooked the bike pump up to the vac line on the wastegate and pumped in some pressure, the valve opened fine but it boost ended up leaking out the valve.

SO I guess the small gap is and issue, what should I do about it?
