I just bought a Galant Vr4 (588/2000) and when I push the clutch to go to neutral or to shift the car revs to 3000 rpm and stays there until I slow down to below 15mph. Does anyone know what causes this as it is quite a pain in the neck. Thanks.

sounds like you have a vacum leak somewhere do a test on it and determine where the leak is comeing from.

I have already tested with a leak tester and can find no leaks with the system pressurized to 15psi or so. I should have mentioned that I had already done this. Any thoughts from anyone?

Does anyone have any opinions on this problem? It will hold at 3k rpm until i slow to 15 mph. Any help please!?

does it drop to a normal idle as soon as your below 15mph? thats pretty odd that it would be speed dependant

it could be a few things, I had a similar problem but the rpms didn't go that high. does it go straight to 3k or does it surge up and down a little? if it does that I'd change the o2 sensor first. Second thing to check would be the idle control or ISC. do a search under idle surge and you will find a wealth of info. Also check: www.vfaqs.com they have tons of good info on dsm's.

I had a similar problem to this with my old talon, but not as severe. I did change the o2 sensor and everything went back to normal at idle and when the clutch was pushed in.

Look for a mechanical issue first like a throttle cable that hangs the throttle plate open and then move on to electrical items like the ISC as mentioned above. Also, checking for vacuum leaks is different than checking for boost leaks. With the motor at idle, spray carb and choke cleaner on your vacuum lines and see if the idle fluctuates or changes. What kind of vacuum readings do you have at idle and decel?

Let us know,

Thanks for the replies, I am going to try checking out the throttle cable/ throttle body today, I will get back to you guys with results, I checked the cable where it goes into the cruise box and it seemed fine but I will check at the TB and such. To Charlie90GST, it will go straight to ~3k rpms and hold until I decel to 15mph then idle like normal. I don't have a boost gauge/vac gauge to check the vac level, I just got the car and haven't wanted to do anything to it until I get it running right. Thanks again guys.

Well, I fugured out the problem, it was because the ABS was disabled, the 20A fuse was pulled out and cause the problem. I have no idea why it made this happen but when I disconnected the ABS motor plug it went away. Thanks for the help everyone.
