Im on my 2nd Turbo Talon (1998) and Im getting ready to put on a Downpipe with test pipe to eliminate the cat. I know this will cause my CEL to light up from not having the Cat. Does this actually cause the engine to change anything or lose power? I had this done on another Talon and didn't notice any difference; But the butt dyno isn't the most proven means to measure power. LOL

(PS To get more power on the Butt Dyno I have a proven method: Pull hard on the seatbelt strap across your chest as to tighten the belt...You'll feel the extra power as you get slammed into the seat...a proven Butt Dyno gain!)

The CEL will not always pop up. Even if it does it will do nothin at all to the performance. Just a system catalyst below threshold code.:thumb:

Just wrap your rear O2 sensor in aluminum foil and zip tie it out of the way. This will keep your CEL from tripping.

As for your other question, depending on the problem, the CEL can correspond with a huge decrease in performance. Such as forgetting to plug in your MAS, will cause the ECU to go into limp mode and the car will run like crap.

OK, to clarify. A CEL that triggers for "O2 malfunction - bank 1 - sensor 2" WILL NOT effect performance. Any other CEL that is unread may potential hurt performance. I.e., the MAF not being plugged in and throwing a code.
