transmission problems

So i finally got my flywheel bolted up, along with an act 2600 with a street disc. bolted up my transmission and t-case. start it up with a little trouble. (hasnt run in 3 months). put it in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th fine. go to put it in 5th and it doesnt go in. it feels like i cant move the shifter that far over to the right to get into 5th. thats what im assuming because i cant get into reverse either. someone please help!

Check in your engine bay to make sure nothing is coming in contact with your lever that the shift cables attach to. I had the same problem and it was a clamp that was holding my intercooler couplers together and was preventing my tranny from shifting gears. So I just shifted the clamp and then everything worked fine.

if its any help, before i had this problem my car would start in 3rd instead of 1st. which is why im putting in the clutch in the first place.

Make sure nothing is coming in contact with the cables, turn the car off and have a buddy shift through the gears as you look in the engine bay. Also it would not hurt to look at the shifter linkage under the center console.

thats what i thought it was. and just to clarify im not putting in a clutch because i thought that was the problem, the clutch is getting put in because starting in 3rd from a dead stop wasnt to easy on it. but to adjust that linkage do i losen it or tighten it? and even what one do i do?
