my buddy the other day decided to drive his car when he had like...um NO oil or bearly any cause he has a massive leak.

now even after he put oil in there is a VERYYY loud knocking...and im not sure what it is iv never heard it knock so loud.

can anybody throw out ideas for me to check on. im doin a compression test tomorrow to check the valves.

oh and on a side note are our lifters hydrolic?

LOL wow, shouldnt have even started it with no oil. The knocking you are hearing is most likely the connecting rods. You probally staved them of oil, which would make them turn, and now they are slapping around the journals on the crank. Time for a rebuild i guess, an expensive one probally. Probally going to need a new crank and rods, depending on how much material was ate away while it was running. I wouldnt even do the compression check, i would just drop the oil pan and check each rod to see if the bearings indeed turn. If they did, then time to yank the motor and start tearing it down. Sorry for the bad news, but you should have fixed the oil leak before you even turned the key.

Spun bearings. Rebuild might be cheaper, but the crank is probably done for. Better off just finding a new engine.

yea...my buddy has a 90gst for sale that doesnt run due to a fuel issue.....i wanna pull that motor and drop it in...what compatiablity issues am i looking at? what needs to be swapped...i know the coil packs are different and the tranny cause its a fwd and shit but what else might need to be changed

Compression test, leak down test. Remove each spark plug wire to see if one of them get's rid of the knock. Drop the oil pan.
I blew a rear main oil seal on a trip back from Philly, lost enough oil before I noticed it, and had begun rod knock. I drove for 30k on those rods. I just now retired the engine and dropped the pan, and I had a couple handfuls of metal shavings, oil squirters, etc etc. And the engine was still running when I pulled it into the garage, haha.

What is this for, your 92 tsi awd?

Hmm, the only differences I can think of offhand are, you'll need an AWD flywheel to bolt up your old tranny and drivetrain. And you had to switch pins 6&14 on the ECU.

well i have the 92tsi....everything is good on it except maybe the rods....so if i leave the ecu in the car and shit....what do i have to change on the motor itself?? im gona be swapping the full tranny cause the laser is fwd and my talon is awd...the motor is goin into the talon

Why would he swap ECUs?

What he needs to do is take the whole intake side (TB, wiring, sensors, etc) from the 92 block and move it to the 90 block and then put that in the 92 car. That avoids swapping over most of the defects from the 90 model year.

Just drop the head from the 92 onto the shortblock of the 90 and put it all back in like normal.

If you get the whole car, yank the oil filter housing and external oil cooler as well.

i dont trust it either.....yes i got the whole car....and currently before my car took a dookie on me i was having major boosting issues due to a cracked exhaust housing and very large leak by the intake manifold....and the intake mani if off a n/t so ill be swapping that with my extra turbo mani or the one thats on the laser already.....

if anyone needs any parts besides engine let me know i have a parts car LOL:thumb:

Yeah yeah your right, I had just gotten home from a long flight and trip last night, so I wasnt thinking so clearly. But, why would you want to swap in your FWD tranny on the talon? Keep the AWD!
