Hey Tuners,
I was wondering if this is a good deal and should I take it or not? A Slowboy Racing GT-35 turbo with polished compressor housing, garrett ball-bearing center section and Mitsubishi turbine housing, exhaust manifold with attached HKS wastegate, Dejon 3" intake and stainless steel oil supply lines with in-line filter.
And that all I will be needing is to bolt this set-up on should be the oil return line, wastegate dump tube, turbo bolts and a couple gaskets. All this for $1300, would this be a good deal? I need an answer ASAP because it might be gone tomorrow.
thanks

Yes, that sounds like a good idea, since i will be paying $12XX for just the turbo from ATPTurbo. I would upgrade to a 255 with an AFPR, a logger, and with a good tune you should be OK, just as long as there is no knock, and the temps aren't hot enough to melt down the cast internals.

Well I do have a pocket logger and is it nessary to get a 255 w/ AFPR right away? And if I do get it I will get it dyno tuned once installed. thanks for the reply

Can you get more pics of that exhaust manifold where the wastegate mounts? It looks kind of familiar.

The only one I have is this picture. So what is your opinion of this turbo setup?

I hate to buy anything used, especially turbo's. You don't get a warranty and you have no idea how well it's been maintained. You also don't know if it's really a GT35R, the seller could be lying or they may not even know what turbo they have. I'd just keep saving my money until I could afford something new.

I would also rethink purchasing a gt35, becuase you will need some very serious supporting mods to make us of it...

that includes fuel(pump, inj.afpr)
good tuning device(not afc)

a decently built bottom end wouldnt hurt either

What are the supporting mods for having a GT35? Is my mods sufficient enough to install and later go to the dyno and get it tuned and later probably get dsmlink. thanks

GT35R's have been known to surge with a standard T04E compressor cover instead of the SP T04S (the one pictured appears to be a T04E, which also explains the 3" intake.)

Personally, I'd stay away. The "small" bolt-on housing isn't going to help, either.

While you're at it you could gold plate the pistons and rods...
Great relivance on that statement...

Did I miss something?
I think I did too, because last time I checked there was no need for a dumb sarcastic remark when someone posts that it would be better to hold off on the GT35R, and build up the engine, and getting all the supporting mods together first.
Now for the Op. How much boost do you want to be running? that is was will allow us to determine the extra mods that will be needed.

I'm sorry if someone doesnt argee with me, but I just dont see the point in buying a turbo that has the capability to do 130 plus trap speed when your asking what fuel mods you need...

You should really research this turbo and think about what your goals are especially if your on a stock 7 bolt...(I know someone will come on and say so and so did 500 hp on a stock 7 bolt)

this type of turbo requires fuel, and lots of it and can make well in to the 600hp range, it will be laggy and wont be very nice for street driving....

you might want to look into a 50 trim(Green, PTE etc...) might better suit your needs...

But what are the goals for the car?

I think he wanted opinions because he is getting a good deal on that setup...I personally bought a gt30r for 1200 (turbo only) which is about the same price for his setup...

Also just because he wants a big turbo doesn't mean he is going to go boost crazy and bost 25+psi....there is nothing wrong with buying a gt35r, boosting 12psi and waiting a while to get all the supporting mods later...

just my two cents

well I bought it so I will keep you guys posted on my Talon. Thanks for the replys

I bought a GT35 last week and I'll be running it on the stock engine for the winter. A low mileage stock 6 bolt in good condition could take a ton of abuse from a GT35, if everything is setup and tuned properly. I do agree that a built engine would be required to get the most from this turbo, but I don't see any harm in running it on a stock engine for a while.

I can't wait to install it, It is coming in this week. I wonder how much gain I will get out of my Talon. Thanks for the replies

You might be disappointed.

You are really doing this backwards. A GT 35 is a serious turbo, targeted mostly for track applications, NOT a street turbo to run on the stock fuel system without even fuel control. Was it a good deal? Probably, but recommending this turbo to someone to run on low boost for a while is counterproductive.

If I were you I'd sell the turbo, take the money I made from it, and then purchase fuel support mods and a big 16g.

I dont know if you looked at his profile but he has a 190lph pump and 650s.I know he wont be able to max this turbo out with this but its a good start. He already has a 16g.Maybe you should check peoples profiles before posting.By the way a gt35 is a streetable turbo.:thumb:

I have good things about this turbo and it will not hurt if I try this turbo out. I think I have the supporting mods for this turbo. Maybe a bigger fuel pump from 190 to 255 with regulator.
thanks
