Crank bearing replacement- which ones go where?

Ok so i cant believe i have to do this, but i have to ask...
I just got my crank back from the machine shop. Ordered new clevitte 77 bearings. They came with 8 regular bearings (single hole and no "sides" on them)

And then the 2 larger bearings with sides on them and dual holes. I cannot remember, since its been so long since dissassembly, where the 2 big bearings go? I have my chiltons here.. but it doesnt specify anything about the different thrust and regular main bearings? Do they go on the block or on the main caps?

And which 2 girths do they go on on the block? thanks for the help!

I'm not too familiar with the girdle design of the 7-bolt, but for all 4g63s the large ones with the sides go in the middle with two sets of main bearings on each side. They have the thrust bearing built into the sides. So set up all your bearings on the block, then set them all up in the girdle, put the crank in, and then set the girdle on top and torque everything down. Make sure to use a good assembly lube.

And just to add.........for the other 4 main bearing locations. The bearing with the oil groove goes in the block, the one without the groove goes in the cap.

got it matt, thanks for the help.

I also know the align the holes and already measured crank end play, everything is good and tight! This is for my 1990 GSX though matt, so its a 6 bolt.

What is a good assembly lube? Chiltons is saying just use a good motor oil?

I've never liked to use oil for the simple fact that most things involving cars takes longer than first anticipated. Especially the build up of an engine. To me the oil is just too thin and over time will just drain off. Granted there will still be a film on the surface, but it will just be too thin of a coating if delays are incurred.

I would just go down to the local parts store and pick up some assembly lube, they're all about the same, it's just something that's a bit thicker and will cling to the bearings better during initial startup than oil will.

I used Royal Purple assembly lube; It was thick enough for me and I have had no complaints with it during the few builds I have done. I also packed the oil pump and primed it with a drill before I put the timing belt on during final assembly.
