what is a good torque converter for street use?

girlfriend snaped the t-belt,put all new valves in(13 bent),172 miles later she blows the rings out...now that we are pulling the motor to rebuild it,I want to wake the car up a little bit.what is a good converter to run?Im not dragin it but I want a little better performance(its her car,91 tsi).Im worried about tranny coolers and problems that may occur with a stall converter.how tough are these auto trans?thanx guys:thumb:
 
First off, It sounds like your girl is pretty rough on cars... If you do mod this one you best get a little more control of the keys... LOL

Now, for the answers you were looking for. As for the Auto trans it is pretty tough in its stock form. As you start to mod the car you should look at this site for the Trans upgrades http://www.importperformancetrans.com

A properly build torque converter will drive just like stock until you need to race. Then all you'll have to do is brake boost the car and be able launch like a bat out of hell.. There is a forum on IPT's site you should join and do some reading it will help you ALOT.
