Hey guys, first I want to thank all of those willing to help. So I was under my car,'97 GST, yesterday about to change the oil when I noticed something odd. There's a plate where the engine mounts to the transmission (mine is an automatic) that's like a 'crescent-moon' like shape that's missing. So it's just open and you can see a portion of my flywheel. The car was in the shop about a month and a half ago and I know the plate was on before. Can anyone tell me what this part is and if it's ok that I've been driving my car, unknowingly, for who knows how long? Any part name and # would help in replacing. Thanks again guys.

thats just a cover to keep some dirt out of the bell houseing. Not a huge deal, if something were to get in there and cause something to break, it would have happened already. Chances of that happening are probably very slim. If you cant find that peace from like a junk yard or something, just take some thin metal and make a little cover yourself. Just cut it out to fit and drill 2 or 3 holes and bolt it in. Has no huge purpose other than to keep dirt and stuff out.

Not a huge deal WTF ? Let us think about a stray bolt or rock popping up in there . Bye bye flywheel , trans damage . It is a huge deal . You need it replaced or fixed quickly . I would limit my driving until I fixed it .

i have to agree that i wouldn't leave that wide open like that. While it is unlikely that something pop in there you never know and why take the chance with something so minimal. I have seen this be and issue with a Supra. Lets just say that a pebble flying into the rotating assembly isn't a good thing.
