Ive owned my 1g for a little over a year now and decided it was time to move on to bigger and better things with it.. My plan was to buy one of the long block strokers from slowboys as a base and work my way through it this winter and finish everything else. So Ive been doing my research about best setups and what not with these strokers. I came upon a thread about the strokers being 7 bolts and someone saying that they could get crank walk, so this made me wonder. Then I started reading deeper into the subject and ran into something about Hyundai blocks being 6 bolt 2.4 strokers? needless to say Im pretty confused now and hoping someone could shine me some light on this predicament for me. At this point Im ready to build my 2 liter and call it a day hahaha. :talon:
 
Strokers can be 6 bolt or 7 bolt depending on the model year in the same manner that standard or built 2.0's are. The only thing that changes are the crank, pistons and rods. Any motor with a piston can walk, but if it's a concern, build a 6 bolt.

For example, if you used your existing block and added stroker parts, you'd have a 6 bolt stroker. The same would be true if you ordered a 6 bolt short or long block from a vendor.

Oh ok I guess I was just caught up in some threads that didnt compliment themselves very well. So Im guessing they would give me a choice of cranks when I ordered the motor then? Thanks for the info.
 
Exactly. You just need to buy the corresponding crank type for your motor (6 bolt), pistons, bearings and rods of your choice and you're all set

Andy I believe this would be a 2.3L if he were using the 2.0 block, and a 2.4L crank, with stroker pistons, and 5.900" long rods(same length as 1G"Big Rods"), unless he bored it out (.060 bore?), so it would displace 2.4L. Also like Andy said they will ask you what bolt your car is, and they will hook you up with the proper crank with that. I see that your DSM is from 92...do you know the build date on it?

I have a 6 bolt, I know that but I was more or less looking for a motor I could just drop in... Im doing all the body, electrical, interior, and frame work myself so I didnt want to assemble a motor as well because with my work schedule it would never see pavement next summer.
 
Just call up SBR and tell them you want a 2.4L long block, and your done. Or you could pay a little extra (the route that Im going) and call up FFWD, and customize a stroker to your specs with a little input from Darren. He is a great guy, and takes the time to go over everything with you about the engine. My engine will be a 2.3L built to with stand 800+hp (wont see that much, but I like peace of mind), and it is all new parts, and Im going to be spending high $8K range...but I need to add on a set of 950s, so I think I will break 9K on it, but its all customized to exactly what you want instead of getting a motor that is avalible for anyone else to buy.
