need help asap, balance belt sprocket.

so haynes made it out like if I stick the screw driver in the back of the block that I could remove the oil pump sprocket (which worked fine) and the balanance sprocket... the balance sprocket just freely spins though, I dunno how to remove it.. I wanna replace the seal behind it.. the belt is off already (I hate haynes) and I don't know what to do.. while writing this I just thought of puting the old b-belt around the sprocket and then putting some vice grips (if I can) over that and try to take it out.. ahh.. if that doesn't work and there is no other way I guess I could put the b-belt and crank sprocket back on and hook up my crank tool that I made again to loosen the bolt? will the belt take that kind of abuse?
 
Now it sounds as though you are talking about the oil pump gear which is driven by the timing belt itself. However it says in your title you are looking to do the balance belt gear.

If you are talking about the oil pump gear driven by the timing belt, once it is lined up at the correct phase you will be able to stick the screw driver in the block to lock the balance shaft in place. Once you do that you just take the nut off the gear, and the gear slides straight off. Then after the new seal is on, just put it back together and torque it to spec with locktite.

I don't know if that helps, or I am misunderstanding you with what is going on.
 
sorry if I was unclear, the oil pump sprocket came off fine with the screwdriver in the block.. the balance shaft sprocket wasn't so easy, but I did get it off, I had to put the balance belt back on, then the crank sprocket, then I put my home made crank tool back on and got it off... why locktite? I've never used it for anything.. just make it more a bi*** to get apart again no? I mean for some things sure but I don't think the sprockets nuts/bolts need it.. the manual says nothing about locktite


edit: I would though like some help on how to get the BS sprocket oil seal in, can't use a socket to drive it in cause there's barely room from the socket... I just wrecked my new seal trying to drive it in with a taped up screw driver carefully tapping all around.. the screw driver split through the tape and jammed in between the sprocket shaft and the seal, ruining the sealing surface. I didn't have a socket big enough for the front end crank seal.. but I just put the box end of a small wrench up against the seal and tapped on the open end while working my way around the seal.. worked great.. the BS seal is too small for this option I think.. unless you had a puny wrench.. I dunno it's also tough cause whatever you're hitting to drive it in is on a 45 degree agle to the seal, and future note.. watch your fingers on those rings around the bs and oil seal on the front case.. I sliced my finger open pretty good.
 
The reason I said to use locktite is due to the fact that there have been some cases where the oil pump gear nut has come loose. I just always feel more comfortable if they are not coming off.

LOL, very true. Matter a fact, it happened to me about a month ago.
 
well hey, thanks, I'll make sure to pick up some locktite tomorrow.. aren't there 2 kinds? which should I get? please check out my edit.. I would have posted again but didn't want the strap for bumping.
 
I put red loctite on any small rotating parts like the oil pump nut and blue on small bolts with low torque specs. It's pretty much just an insurance against vibrations ( I have removed my balance shafts) and it's not hard to undo at all when you need to take them apart again. I actually had to take out the oil pump sprocket after I had it torqued with red loctite and a couple days had passed, and it came out easily with a breaker bar.
 
last night while in bed I thought of an idea, I'll put the socket I want to use to set the seal on a rachet, stick it up in there and hit lower down on the ratchet shaft to tap it in.. hopefully this will work.. the little things and all the tips and tricks you figure from experience make it so much easier.. all the reading in the world can't help that.
